Howdy, dancin' public, Yes, that's right, this monday we kick off the Summer Swing Fling at Neiman's, and it will be a night to remember. Only an $8 cover charge for an entire night of dancing and fun. The lesson, at 8:30, will be taught by Jim and Margie of 2 to Groove, some of the most appreciated dance instructors around. The Tim Gill Orchestra will ring those rafters at 9 pm, providing some of the best live swing music around. Our Jack and Jill contest, run by Joel and Allison Plys of 2ply swing, is one of the most enticing yet. Our prize pot has been started off with a big sum of donated money, so you can bet that it will be worth it at the end of the summer! This progressive contest will feature guest judges each week, and the $3 entry fee gets you into the contest and three raffle tickets as well. "Raffle," You ask? Why yes! Every monday there will be a prize raffle with big prizes at stake- this monday you can win one of two $50 gift certificates to the Emerald Chinese Restaurant for some fine asain cuisine! Every night there will be great prizes just like this for the handing out! And, of course, you can't beat the TGO. We are swinging hotter than ever, and our list of tunes is growing and growing to meet the needs of YOU, the modern lindy hopper. You will love what Tim's got cookin' in his musical pot! So come on down and add to the energy- a great night out at an affordable price. What More Could You Ask For? -Tim Gill http://www.timgillorchestra.com tgo@cox.net P.S. Jim and Margie's logo is supposed to appear in this post....if anyone knows how to post .jpg files please let me know. Apologies to Jim and Margie too! ;-P |

A fun night of dancing and drinking. I felt the J&J contest sapped energy from the event early in the evening, but otherwise a well orchestrated event. |

I had a blast! Thanks for the dance, Aletha! I went into the bar to chat during the competition, so I didn't notice the "sapped energy". I think the competitions are really beneficial for those who are mostly watching, thinking about learning, etc., as well as for those who love to compete. Anything that helps grow the scene, and keep those already a part of it interested is a good thing. Jim and Margie's dance was amazing. The raffle was fun and brings in cash for the competition prizes. Joel and Allison always bring a ton of energy in the room, as do Meeshi, Luis, Dabe, Kermit and others. And it was great to see Brian and Jewelie there. Heather Jernigan from Houston, Jayme from Chicago, Jason from LA (who won the Jack & Jill), and others from out of town were there. The Tim Gill Orchestra trys so hard to please. I think they're improving all the time. Hopefully one day they'll loose the charts and really get into it. Sandi's voice adds lots of variety and quality. We're lucky to have them, and a place like Neiman's to eat, drink, dance and hang out in. I also like the fact that it provides a venue for North County dancers, who always are doing the driving to come to everything in San Diego. All in all, it's a great summer dance venue. Nice to see Hazel back, too. |

Hey Jeff... Name dropping may be hazardous to your health... you may forget somebody. ~ often times some of the big names have bigger names behind working the details. |
| |
True. I'm sure I left some names out that had a big impact on the success of the evening. I was just posting my overall feeling of the night at the moment as I recalled it; (hence the "and others" after mentioning names, in that I'm sure I was forgetting someone). I seem to be prone to "hazardous to your health" behavior these days! Congrats on 2nd place. Ciao. |
