Yes, all good things must come to an end sometime. After 2 years at Clayton's Cafe and 1 year at the Hot Monkey Love Cafe, Cafe Savoy, San Diego's unique coffeehouse-turned-swing-club, is finally closing its doors for good on Friday, July 25th. In its 3 years of existence, Cafe Savoy has hosted thousands of swing dancers and dozens of the best swing DJs from all over the country. In fact, in an ironic twist of fate, Lance once told me that Cafe Savoy was the original inspiration for LindyGroove. Believe it or not, he and Debbie Gitt would drive down to Cafe Savoy regularly, because they enjoyed dancing in SD more than they enjoyed dancing in LA. Anyway, although there are some positive aspects to Cafe Savoy's current location (great sound system, funky atmosphere), there are too many major drawbacks to the Hot Monkey Love Cafe (including its name) that prevent Cafe Savoy from thriving (poor lighting, concrete floor, poor customer service, out-of-the-way geographic location, etc.). Because of these things, we must sadly bid adieu to this landmark San Diego swing venue, but not without going out with a bang and hosting two more cool swing parties before we're through: Friday, July 11th -- Live Swing Music with the Rockin' Aces We are excited to bring LIVE SWING MUSIC to Cafe Savoy one last time with SD swing legends, The Rockin' Aces. The Aces are one of San Diego's premier rockabilly/swing bands and play "everyswing" from jump blues to early rock'n'roll to country swing to novelty 1920's numbers. They are fun and extremely danceable, so come on out and support live swing music for swing dancers! $7 cover. Friday, July 25th -- Closing Party with DJs Justin & Jenn Yes, this will the final Cafe Savoy dance party EVER! Since this will be our final party, we are pulling out all the stops and bringing down two of Cafe Savoy's all-time favorite DJs/dancers, Justin Zillman & Jenn Salvadori. Along with being two of the raddest dancers on the planet, Justin and Jenn are awesome DJs and play a diverse mix of music guaranteed to please groovesters and Bal-sters alike. $7 Cover. For more info, visit CafeSavoy.com! F2 LJ A23 Be there! |

I'm sad Cafe Savoy is going, I always liked that venue. But I think I was one of the few regulars there. Oh well. |

Chance, you're brilliant. How d'ya figure that out?! I figured since the kids aren't interested in swing dancing anymore, that I may as well go after the seniors! I can see the press release headline now: Big Band Bingo with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy! |

"...Hot Monkey Love Cafe (including its name) that prevent Cafe Savoy from thriving (poor lighting, concrete floor, poor customer service, out-of-the-way geographic location, etc.)." --- ouch... |
