JSYes, one of LA's top swing bands will be down in San Diego this Sunday to play for the happy feet of SD Swing Dancers. Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five (with Hilary Alexander) is a septet dedicated to preserving the classic and often overlooked small group swing from the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. They play tunes from the books of notable small groups as the Benny Goodman Sextet, Count Basie’s Kansas City Six/Seven, Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five, as well as Lester Young, Django Reinhardt, Illinois Jacquet, Duke Ellington, and Coleman Hawkins, and featuring vocal numbers from Ella Mae Morse, Anita O’Day, and the young Ella Fitzgerald.

Come out and dance to one of the best swing bands in the country on the biggest dance floor in the Gaslamp! Doors open at 7:30pm, FREE swing lesson at 7:45pm, band plays from 8:30-11:30pm.

$12 Gen. ($10 if you purchase advance tickets at the Firehouse or if you are a CafeSavoy Swingazette subscriber).

If you have not seen this band, you must go. Jonathan truly cares about the enjoyment of dancers and is always looking for ways to improve the show. If I weren't going to the Seattle Exchange I would be there.

Wow, I'd love to see hilary. I hear she's pretty good! We've got out of town guests coming that aren't dancers. Maybe they'd like the show though. Do they serve appetizers in there?

Hilary has a great voice! And, yes, the Aubergine serves food, appetizers and entrees.

Just as long as you are willing to pay $15 for an appetizer.

Yes, Tam, come on down this Sunday. I had a lot of fun dancing with you a few weeks back. Just so you know, our very own Hal Smith, will be subbing for their regular drummer. He played with Campus Five when they played for Camp Hollywood last Thursday, so it should be a rockin' night.

p.s. The appetizers are great, and definitely worth the money (in my opinion).

Thanks for the invite!!!! I'll have to see what our guests want to do. I don't know if they will be keen on having a baby-sitter for their kids too. We'll try our best though! It could be a good grown-up night out!

I had a blast dnccing with you, Meeshi. Man, you wore me out and I went home with blisters on my feet, but I loved every minute of it!

Jonathan posted this on Jive Junction...

The Campus Five five will be appearing at this year's Sweet and Hot Jazz Festival. We'll be playing Friday night, August 29th. A special dancer's pass is available for $10 off the $30 Friday Night Pass. To get this special rate you must email me at campusfive@campusfive.com - your name will be on the list at the door, so you can get the reduced rate. Please email me before Wed. 8/27. Other bands playing include Bill Allred, and several others to be announced. I'm just waiting for the official schedule to come out.

For more info check www.sweethot.org - but remember the special $20 dancer's rate for Friday night is only availble by emailing me.

Any Lindy Souls still in town? If so, has anyone been to the Galaxy Theater up in Santa Ana? I hear that Big Sandy and the Fly Rite boys and Lavay Smith are playing there tonite with 2 other bands on the same bill.
