There are now swing opportunities on both Monday and Tuesday in North County San Diego! At Neimans on Monday and Fat Ivors on Monday and Tuesday. This is great news for all of us who would like to dance in our own backyard. I've not been to Fat Ivors yet, but the band is considered by some to be the best in SD (they were the La Jolla Allstars). Neimans is a great option also, as I hear the band is good, and the dance space is fantastic! |

Here's an announcement from the folks playing Mondays at Neimans. I think I'll check it out tonight! Well, I have to say that things are going pretty well on Monday nights at Neiman's. We must have done something right, because management said that attendance doubled in the second week! I am looking forward to more of the same. Tenor player, Gary LeFebvre (alumnus of Harry James and Stan Kenton) sat in for Frank LeMarca on last minute notice last Monday. Boy was that a good day at school! I had never heard him play before last Monday...wow! Those of you that were there know what I'm talking about. I'm sure we'll be seeing him at Neiman's again from time to time. We'll be there again this Monday. See you there! Dreaming of 1945, Randy Morser |

Hey....who's going to go check this out tonight? ~Krista |
| |
The band plays from 7-10pm. I am looking forward to hearing them. Bridget teaches the intro lesson and tells me the band is good... |
| |
I'm thinking about going. Anyone know if there's a cover charge? I think that's why I stopped going there in the first place a few years ago-the cover charge was up to $20 or $25, and you had to buy tap water! That, and some of the staff were rude. But I do have some good memories of Neimans. It was the first place I ever went out to to go lindyhopping. |
| |
I believe it is $5 |
| |
I just saw that on the calendar. But thanks! |
| |
A bunch of us ended up at Neimans last night - it's a great opportunity! The band is good, the floor is great and the price is right. This is an excellent chance to get a North County venue going on a Monday night. Be there! |
| |
Shawn, thanks for the dances last night. I apologise for not being completely with it and missing a lot of your lovely leading. |
| |
Uh, I think that was my scrubby leading. You have become quite an impressive dancer Natalie - I look forward to our next dances! |
| |
I had so much fun!!! Worth the drive, definately. Some great musicians and the vocals were excellent. Since it ended at 10:00 some of us took in a movie afterwards. |
| |
Thanks Shawn. But my reaction times were definately below par (do people on the scene _ever_ sleep?, and I'm only just starting to get up to speed on being able to dance at those kind of tempos, so I still have problems with leads I'm not yet really used to. As to the movie, why did all the guys in the audience cheer when then girl got chopped in half in Gladitor? |
| |
Ever see that sci fi movie, A Boy and his Dog? One guy and his pals in the audience went shouting crazy at the anti-girl ending. |
| |
Is that the one where the boy and dog end up walking into the sunset with the wedding dress drapped over the dog? |
| |
Is that the one with Don Johnson in the lead role? No joke! |
| |
natalie : i think so......after they eat her. hopm : yes...and the dog talks, i recall |

FROM RANDY MORSER To those of you who are new to Randy Morser's Air Mail Special mailer, I salute you! I hope that those of you who have been making it down to Neiman's have been enjoying the swing as much as I have. Attendance has gone up about 80% every week. Playing with a band that swings this hard is such a blast! I couldn't ask for better players! And you dancers are insane! It's good to see Andy Powers back in the ranks of dancers, though whenever he is in attendance the management complains that the dancers are being thrown too high and the make-up has to be scraped from the ceiling on a weekly basis (hah a). Welcome to Shawn and friends from Swing-o-rama. Having them on the dance floor last Monday night made me realize that being upstaged can sometimes be a good thing. Thanks for the support, guys. I hope to see you out there on the dance floor (or listening to Frank LeMarca's masterful tenor-playing from a cozy table) come Monday. Love from the note factory, Randy Morser Ps There were a lot more people there last time for the FREE DANCE LESSON. Brigit and Marco are great teachers. Come on out and learn to lindy! You'll love it! And for those of you who can no longer handle my incessant chatter about swing and whatnot, simply reply with the word "stop" in the subject and I shall release you from the wheel of swing-madness. Guitar: Randy Morser Vocals: Janet Hammer Bass: Gunnar Biggs Drums/Vocals: Tony Davis Piano: John Giulino Saxophones: Frank LeMarca Trumpet: Les Kepics Take I-5 to Carlsbad Village Dr. (west) to Carlsbad Blvd. Neiman's is on corner on your the right. Free Swing dance lesson from 6:30-7:00. Air Mail Special plays from 7-10. $5 at the door. For those of you that are interested, many of us in Air Mail Special have played with a lot of famous cats. These include Harry James, Charlie Parker, Stevie Wonder, Nelson Riddle, Buddy Rich, Chet Baker, Red Norvo, Terry Gibbs, Sonny Stitt, Les Elgart, Les Brown, Bucky Pizzarelli, Stanley Turntien, Max Roach, Ben Webster, A.J. Croce, and DeAdaddo to name a few. Though I may be the leader of this band, I have to say that every time I play with this wonderful group of musicians is still a GREAT day at "school". |
| |
Don't forget - support live swing at Neimans tonight! Right Jeff? |
| |
Shawn, if I'm there tonight can I have a dance with you at a slightly slower tempo than my recent attempts? |
| |
Of course! |
| |
Caught the Monday night show at Neimans tonight - it was great! The place has real energy now. There were plenty of dancers (all age ranges) and the band played nice, mid-tempo danceable music that kept the floor full. Highly recommended! |
