JULY 1, BREAKAWAY: "KGB trio rules, by far the best trio I have ever heard and danced to...period." --Peter Loggins

I totally recommend KGB, I intend on being there at Breakway on the 1st to see their show. I met Kyle from KGB this weekend, he was at Isgards bonfire and Tony's graduation party. He and his girlfriend were in town on vacation... He gave me his CD and its very good! The CD is called "9 waters and no tip". (You can tell they know dancers well!) As a jazz trio, they only have piano, bass and drums, but they do a lot with it. A good mix of tempos, mostly between 125 and 170 BPM or so. They sing and harmonize, too! KGB is from Tucson, I think it was, and a couple of the members were in Kings of Pleasure, another good band from Arizona. They do some originals and some covers or songs like "Is you Is or Is you Ain't My Baby"...

Great band, don't miss them!

KGB trio played some great sets.

I brought along some non-dancing friends and though they hardly danced, they enjoyed the music immensely.

Great sound for a trio and good mix of swing and jump blues. All three sing good vocals in addition to the keyboard/stand-up bass/drums sound.

I hope we can have them back again!

Hey Chris! I'm glad your evening was a success! I saw KGB in L.A. the night before, and they were great. I meant to post something right after, but I went out of town. I'll be seeing you soon hopefully, this or next week dancing in SD.

Hi Chris - I am glad the KGB Trio went well. I promise next time to attend if I suggest a band. Perhaps we can work something out for another night soon.

How many people have entered the contrest?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Shawn Hanna on Sunday, July 09, 2000 - 06:43 pm: Edit

The contest was great, with Billy, Kate and Laura winning it all. Chris managed to convince plenty of dancers to enter, (the judging was unfair to all participants whose names sounded like Shawn) and some of the dancing was very impressive!

Photos are in the Photos Anybody? section of this board.

I enjoyed his selection of tracks. Especially later in the evening.

I had a hard time hearing some of the older recordings he played, but he did a good job of keeping people dancing. The next challenge is to get people out of the back room and onto the big dance floor!

I think it had something to do with the sound system, there seemed to be problems -- i've heard complaints that the set up there isn't top notch.

Is Breakaway happening this week and next? The Breakaway home page lists August 15 (should be August 12?) as the next date. Or does that just mean there are no special events the next two weeks, and everything is going on as normal?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Chris (Chris) on Friday, July 21, 2000 - 08:26 am: Edit

Oops. Thanks for the catch. August 12 is the next dance at Dance North County. Whipping up something special for it!!
