What contest???? What band???? |
| |
BTO at the Catamaran $100 first place. Band starts at 8:30 pm, no idea when the contest starts. 9pm maybe? Catamaran/Cannibal Bar knows nothing about the contest, it's on the BTO's website though. They said there would be plenty of advertisement about it. (?) |
| |
Some cool recordings from the 1890's to 1920's. They aren't swing but they are vintage: http://www.mp3.com/78rpm |
| |
Thanks Ian - I liked them. What happened at the Catamaran last night? |
| |
Since nobody is going to post it. Chris and Shanna won the contest. A couple from San Fran and Nancy/Dennis took runner up positions. Chris and Shanna's performance was highlighted by near flawless arials and Shanna's near undressing (harkening back to Monsters '98-Show me the panties!) Dennis and Nancy gave an exciting performance as well. However, Dennis's face plant maneuver, while providing a good laugh, probably didn't help their score. San Fran's performance was entertainig and witty, never occured to me to sit in my chair until after my performance was over. |

Candy Kane at the Belly Up tonight, 5:30 early show. |
| |
Damn you, Ian! That "maneuver" is an actual move as done by Whitey's. It WASN'T a flub. }8^P> |

Swing with Tami Thomas at Encinitas Summer concert 3-5pm at Moonlight State Beach Park!! |

hi Everyone, As you all noticed, we are back from sweden and even more addicted to Lindy hop..... I will plan a video evening around the end of the month to share some of the fun we had in Sweden. ATTENTION: for now I would like to know who is interested to go to the JazzFestival in BigBear on the weekend 17th to 20st of August? The total costs for bands 3 days long are only 60 bucks and I have a friend up there, who rented a condo for about 10 people. We can stay there for cheap. Let me know if you'd like to go with me. I will start organizing the trip and the carpooling next week. hope I get a nice group and lots of responses from you. See you out dancing. isgard |

Hey Everyone, If you didn't already know, Sally Wirsching is moving to Moscow in just a few weeks! (apparently they have a very hopping Lindy scene) Well, maybe they will after Sally gets there. Anyway, to help send her off right, please come join us for a farewell dinner at the Cheesecake factory in Fashion Valley next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Come by the Rocket that night too for a goodbye Cossack dance. If you would, give me a call at 858-623-9218 or e-mail me back mbiggart@usa.net , if you'll be coming to dinner, so I can make us a reservation. Hope to see you next Tuesday, -Anne |
| |
I see that next week Bobby Gordon is playing the Rocket (good thing I investigated their gig at the Lima Bar & Grill, right?) AND Club Swing with the San DIego Summer Pops. Not to mention the Firehouse, Cafe Savoy, Neimans, etc! Makes for a busy week. |

Truly and land flowing with milk and honey! |

Hi Lindy Hoppers! Anyone interested in coming with me to San Francisco over Labor Day weekend? There's plenty of dancing on the playful dance floors of San Francisco. Many of you have heard or danced at the Doghouse on Saturday night, Lindy in the Park on Sunday morning, and Jive at Five at Sunday dusk, plus Homestyle Sunday evening. I've already bought a ticket for the weekend, but let me know if you'd like to join up there. Check www.lindylist.com for latest Lindy events. Check airfare before the weekend to take advantage of advance purchase tix. Later, Michael |
| |
I'll met all you guys there in SF! SweetLindyLorraine |
| |
I'm planning on going, but is anyone interested in driving up with me? Also, Michael, where are you planning on staying? I know of a few SF-ers, but I feel bad about imposing. Are you getting a hotel room? Any one interested in sharing a hotel room with me? Lorraine, I promise to call you when I get home from the library! Amy |
| |
Lorraine! Where are you? When is Labor Day Weekend anyway? I guess I could look on a calendar. Anyway, would love to join you. Will have to see what my "Soccer-Dad" schedule permits, as well as budget! (My two kids private school is $700/month!) Maybe we can get that winner of the 88 million lotto jackpot in San Francisco to fly us all up there. Any good fares going on that weekend? Oh, in my previous post I meant: "Truly a land flowing with milk and honey!!!!" Even with Lorraine gone, San Diego is becoming a very fun place to dance! |
| |
Amy, I'm crashing on my friend's futon. Ask Susan Bird, Isgard, Britt, or Laurel for tips on ingratiating yourself onto a dancer's apartment floor. =) Seriously, there's a mailing list circulating in SF (that I don't receive) where people post stuff like this. Ask Susan Bird and her SF connection Arthur (who may be reading this) for details. |
| |
Lorraine, save me a dance! we all miss you dearly =( -HopM |
| |
Thanks, Michael. Carolyn is interested in going, too. She knows people, as does Valorie. I just feel bad imposing on anyone. When Carolyn and I solidify our plans, we'll let you know, Jeff. I'm partial to driving, and volunteer to do so, if anyone wants to go with me. |
| |
Oh the love. Jeff - what am I going to do without you in my life?!? Sob sob. HopMichael - you are all over the web these days. Everywhere I look. Of course I'll save you a dance. It's my #1 priority! Amy - we need to talk girlfriend. Lorraine |
| |
SweetLindyLorraine, as are you my fellow cyber-traveler! Ain't Yehoodi grand? |
| |
I'm going to be in SF Mon-Thurs of Labor day week (if there are any stragglers left over from the weekend) and am planning on meeting up with SLLorraine. |
| |
Sweet Lindy Lorraine, Amy and I are there for sure! Can't wait to Lindy in the park... I have plenty of connections for places to crash over the weekend. Don't worry about that. It's sure to be a blast! Who else is interested in coming with? Carolyn |
| |
Hey, I just received this e-mail from E-Man of Portland, Oregon. He helped to DJ at Swing Break this year. Looks like he'll be in town soon... E-man wrote: rumors have it that I might be making a visit down South come Christmas/new years time can you pass this along to a few people? (Kate Keller, Tanya, Velana <- if she remembers me, . . . all girls of course, I lost their emails) Emmanuel Eng |
| |
Nothin' planned for tonight? A group of dancers will be headed out to the Catamaran to dance to Big Time Operator tonight (Wednesday). It's said that they're celebrating a fellow dancer's birthday. I hope you can join us! Oh, that dancer would be me =) Creakin' in his joints, -HopM |
| |
Happy Birthday M, had alot of fun dancing last nite! |
| |
Hey, thanks to everyone that came out dancing last night! A birthday jam makes one feel young again. I haven't been at the Catamaran to hear BTO in ages and it was good to hear them again. They even had some new numbers like a big band version of "Night Train" (one of my favorite Oscar Peterson trio songs). Good to see a big crowd out there in addition to the usual suspects. |
| |
Actually, they've been playing that Night Train song for a while! sorry I couldn't make it, I have a bit of a cold... |
| |
im hijacking this old thread to ask if anyone is thinking of going out to see brian setzer at the fairgrounds tomorrow night. anyone? just curious.... |
| |
Going, but I've lost my voice for the past few days, so I'll be the tall mute in the back. Sean Peisert |
| |
Feel better Sean! |
| |
What time is Brian Setzer playing? |
