We've talked to George about the possibility of having his band play at the Firehouse in June. It would be a fairly costly affair so we would have to charge accordingly.

Would we be well attended at $12-$15/person for an "intimate" dance evening with George Gee and the Jump Jive & Wailers? I don't know. Thoughts anybody?

I'd pay that to see them. BUT- it seems to me that the venue would be packed, maybe to the point of being uncomfortable.

Have you figured how many people would fit comfortably in the Firehouse? And what the ticket price would be if you limited sales to that number?

I'd gladly pay more to have enough room to dance. I know that sucks for the income disadvantaged, but... most will agree it's hard to have fun if it's too packed.

We had about 150 people there when we had the big holiday party and it was not that crowded. I think the limit would be 200 people. At that size it would be a fun crowd without being too much of a zoo.

Andy - We'll limit the crowd to just and Emmy for about $2500 bucks! Just say the word!

George Gee in town?

I am sooooo there!

C'mon everybody! This is the same band that played at the Rocket on that ill-fated, police busted Monday last fall and played AGAIN the following night gratis!

George and his band have always been about playing for the dancers. Let's return the favor and show up to support him!

Oh, yeah, did I mention he plays great music? :)

He has a new CD out that's a live recording of Frankie Manning's 85th birthday at Roseland Ballroom in NYC last year. The energy of the dancers, the band, and Frankie & George on that album is simply fantastic.

I'd pay it, but I bet you would find a lot of people wouldn't. There's a lot of poor swing people out there, students and otherwise. $12-$15 is a real lot.

didn't we pay $15 the last time?

I'd be down to pay for it...lord knows I never get to see as many bands as you 21+ people do, but I think it's important to remember that a good majority of the swing population are high school or like me...trapped between high school and the adult world...
Poor, starving students probably couldn't afford to go much higher than $15. It would suck to have an event like that only cater to the older crowd in an all ages venue.
Just my thoughts.
Peace out
Krista

Shawn,

how about a student discount?

I am not trying to ingratiate myself with a certain moose... =)

More seriously, Krista and Ron raise a good point about the affordability for our younger dancers.

I wouldn't even be an issue if we did it at the Firehouse. The cost is such that a large student contingent would make it impossible.

We'll see what we can do though!

Price is a concern, but like Andy, room to dance is more of a concern for me...i wouldn't pay even $5 to have my shins kicked every few seconds, no matter how good the band. are you sure there were 150 at the holiday dance??? i don't remember there being that many.

it was pretty packed when george gee played at the rocket - i can't imagine being able to dance w/ 200 at the firehouse! the capacity of non-dancers is only 300... and i would say for dancers it would be at least 1/2 that, preferably 1/3 that... i wouldn't go any smaller of a venue than the rocket.
