Hey everyone-- Sorry to bug ya with yet another swing event, but when it rains, it pours. Actually, I agreed to do this event long before I knew about Clayton's. The management of Champion Ballroom had wanted me to run a swing dance there for quite some time. So when Swingtime Saturdays at the Marriott abruptly ended, they caught me in my moment of vulnerability and contracted me to do some monthly swing nights. At first, I regretted my decision to commit to Champion, considering how much I enjoy the laid-back vibe of Cafe Savoy, but then again this could be a great opportunity to expose Lindy Hop to a whole new circle of dancers that have probably never witnessed GOOD social Lindy. I have always thought that if good ballroom dancers watched us swing, they'd appreciate and respect our dance a little more. Anyway, I'm inviting you all to come on out to Champion Saturday and show the "ballroomers" what real groovin' is all about. To intice you to come, I want to cut a deal to those of you reading this right now. YOU CAN GET IN FOR HALF-PRICE ($3 instead of $6) IF YOU BOTH BRING EXACT CHANGE (3 ONE DOLLAR BILLS) AND SAY THE "SECRET" PASSWORD! Why not make it $3 for everyone? Because we still need to pay for the space, and at $3 a head, we wouldn't cover our costs. This discount is for those of you that have supported SwingOrama, our classes/workshops, the Firehouse and Cafe Savoy. We owe our success to you. Why exact change? So that others coming in who aren't "in the know", don't see us making change for a $5 and wonder why you got in at such a low price. Why a secret password? Because it's devilishly FUN! OK, everyone, here's this month's secret password, "LOVELY". Here's what you do, when you get to the "lovely" lady collecting the money at the door, you must come up with a clever way to use the word "LOVELY" in your interaction with her, hand her the 3 one-dollar bills (folded once) and walk in. No questions asked. It's that simple. There are 2 important rules you MUST observe: 1) If you ask for or need change OR forget to fold your bills, you will be disqualified and must pay the full price. So be warned, bring exact change. 2) You must use the password in a contextual way that doesn't let anyone else around you know it's a secret code word. That means you can't just grunt "Lovely", pay your 3 bucks and get in. This is also grounds for disqualification. Please come up with a creative compliment and make a fun game of it! Here are some examples of one-liners to toss at our "lovely" lady. Please come up with your own: "Oh, what a lovely dress you're wearing..." "The decorations look lovely tonight..." "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts..." Etc.... I tossed around dozens of passwords in my head, but chose "lovely" because I believe we just don't compliment beauty enough in our culture, don't ya agree? Anyway, have fun with it and I hope to see you there. Doors open at 8pm, music starts at 9pm. See the Calendar for details. Remember the ballroom is huge, there's over 7,000 sq. ft. of beautiful hardwood floor, so tell a few friends and share the password if you wish. No street shoes or sneakers please. Let's fill this large space with your wonderful energies. Thanks for your time, Meeshi |

Hey everyone-- The next FULL MOON SWING party at Champion Ballroom is scheduled for Sat. Apr. 29. It is such a wonderful space for dancing as most of you know who went to the Sunday night Lindy Exchange event. Last month's event was quite successful with over 100 Lindy newbies checking out our scene. I played a very eclectic set of music at the last dance since I found it very difficult to please all the different styles of swing dancers. (If you have any tips on songs and CDs that please West Coasters, please let me know.) But all in all it was quite fun to watch East Coast, West Coast, Smooth and Modern Savoy style dancers successfully attempt to dance together. There will be a new password for this month's dance (I'll post it next week), but I'm going to have to raise the special, super-duper, top-secret password price from $3 to $4. I didn't realize Champion was going to go all out with their fancy buffet, so the extra dollar will cover those extra tasty luxuries. I hope to see you there! Again the dance will be held not this Saturday, but the next. Peace, Meeshi |

OK, here are the "secret" passwords for this month's dance: "I KISS YOU, SHARON" (whispered softly to the lovely lady taking the money and then followed by a kiss on each of her cheeks.) Kissing both cheeks is a very common greeting in the Tango community, so it won't hurt to give it a go in ours. Also, remember to hand her the $4 discreetly to get your discount. She will not give you change. Thanks for cooperating in this exercise of mischievous fun and I hope to see you there on Saturday. Peace, Meeshi |

I KISS YOU! |

Hey everyone-- Sorry for laggin', but here the secret password or "pass-action" for this month: Ready...bring a tea bag! That's it, just wrap your $4 dollars (in exact change) around a tea bag and walk on in! The reason for the tea bag is that, as some of you know, Susan Bird has been feeling a little under the weather lately. Since Susan LOVES tea, I thought it would be fun to help her stock up her tea supply "for a rainy day." Her only request is that is that it be black tea, and not the herbal "crap", as she calls it. Maybe Natalie has some suggestions as to preferred tea brands. So bring your tea bag and a smile and I'll see you this Saturday at Champion. Peace, Meeshi |

>DRESS TO IMPRESS! No sneakers or street shoes allowed. There is a dress code for Champion? That's really weak IMO. I like my Nike =sneakers= better than dance shoes, heck, they =are= my dance shoes but since they're 'sneakers' I can't wear them to Champion? And what's a street shoe? Rich |

C'mon, Rich. You're kidding right? A 'street shoe' is a shoe you wear off the dance floor in your 'other' life. I'm sure you can respect the fact they have a very nice, expensive, well maintained dance floor and don't want shoes that will mar, mark, or otherwise damage the floor. But not to worry, I've seen lots of sneakers there. If you haven't had yours chromed, just be sure to dig the pebbles and gum out of the tread before entering. There is no enforced dress code that I am aware of. I think the "Dress To Impress" was an attempt (that didn't work) to get dancers to treat the Champion event as a special dress-up affair rather than just another run-of-the-mill dance. A nice idea for those who like to dress up sometimes and dance in the company of other like-minded dancers. Jane |
