Hey some of us are FEMALE out here... so I can't vote on the poll cause I'm not a waiter... I'm a waitress. |
| |
Ugh. If you have to be called "waitress" for someone to know you're female... ;) If you look at the catagory, Ron obviously meant for it to be inclusive. |
| |
Would the correct term have been "wait-person?" |
| |
i think the politically correct term is "server". |
| |
The existence of the term "waitress" itself is sexist, as it separates the female waitstaff out from the male waitstaff. |
| |
Hmmm, well... why would one refer to a female server as "waitress" when "hey, bitch!" works perfectly fine? |
| |
I do respond to "hey new girl"... but only to the regulars - another fav of everyone is "that young looking girl with the braids... can I pull on them" Dennis, you should make it to Dini's sometime when I'm in the bar - just make sure you wear flippers and bring a tricylce. |
| |
oh and behind one of the guys' backs we call him "twinkle toes" not "waiter" |
| |
Hmmm, a lot of actresses call themselves actors nowadays, why not waitresses being waiter? Oh well... But I clearly didn't put the right categories for this poll because 10% are voting for "other". No surprise 35% of us are engineering/technical! Buncha geeks. Is it because the same part of the brain likes music, or because we like the patterns involved swing dancing, or just that engineers can afford the $$ for years of lessons it takes to become good... |
| |
And with the vet category being 0%, clearly Laurel and Shauna haven't voted yet... |
| |
Maybe I can add a mask and snorkel to the outfit, then you can just pour the beer down the snorkel, and I can use it as a beer bong.... So where is Dini's again? |
| |
There's another vet in our scene too and I already forgot her name. Susan Bondi and Bill would know. I guess she doesn't come out very often. |

Okay, I am trying to work but I'm crazy bored so I am going to go off on a barely related tangent here... My first year of grad school, I was the only female in my class of budding economists. During the first week of classes, professor Y lets us out for a break and says, "I want you guys back here in 10 minutes". Then he says, "Uh, I mean, the guys and the, uh... uh... the, uh... the non-guy." Then he tries to divert attention away from his latest statement by questioning the admission policies which resulted in the gender imbalance in the classroom. But as he muses aloud on this theme he notes that every few years there are actually classes with quite a few women in them. "Women are like locusts," he concludes. At this point I rather involuntarily voice some displeasure at being compared to an insect, whereupon he states that he feels that locusts are really quite smart creatures, evading predators by disappearing for years at a time. I guess I'm just a dumb locust who showed up in the wrong year. |

I love my locust sister. |
| |
Luckily, for us, she doesn't go away for years at a time! |

Dini's is west of I-5 in Carlsbad... take Tamarack exit and go towards the beach till Carlsbad Blvd - then go north and you'll see it on your right hand side before the stoplight. OR go to Neiman's, turn left on Carlsbad Blvd, pass the stoplight and take the next left street. Dini's by the Sea has on draft Budweiser, Miller Lite, Samuel Adams, Newcastle Brown Ale, Black & Tan, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Guinness, Gordon Biersch, Karl Strauss, Pyramid Hefeweizen, Kemper Root Beer... any other questions? [oh and our special drinks are Iguana's, Green Lizards, and Sex on the Beach shots] |

Aw, thanks Jeff--that was nice of you to say. Actually, I am moving away to San Francisco in late September/early October, but I am hoping to come down to SD every two months or so, to see my family, and, of course, to make my rounds at the fabulous SD lindy venues. I haven't danced with you in ages, Jeff. You'll be around this coming week, I hope? I love you too, sister! I like Newcastle Brown Ale. I bought some for my dad last time he came to town, in a futile attempt to keep him from drinking my roommate's beer. I haven't had it from the tap since I was actually in Newcastle. That was when I was 7. Guinness and Sam Adams are good too. It's late and I'm rambling again. |

AWW, I miss the conversating with my beloved sister on the forum. Hopefully she reads this... Love you sister. Muah! Hope to see you again soon. |
| |
You have a sister? |
| |
Does she dance? |
| |
Ha! Of course I do. She likes to think she does. |
