![]() Yes, the Firehouse party is soon upon us (just two more days) with plenty of live music, live drumming and live food in store for you (well, the food was alive at one time). BREAKING NEWS: It also looks like one of the drummers of Sela Ni Yele can't make the performance, so I'll be drumming in his place. (Yikes! I haven't seriously touched a drum in 5 years.) Anyway, I have one rehearsal to learn over 10 minutes of the rhythmic changes, so please don't snicker too loudly when I screw up. I'm really rusty. I hope to see you all there. I'll save a "sambussa" (spinach, potato, chicken or beef) for you! Click HERE for more info! |

Hey last night was pretty friggin' rad. A tad on the bluesy side for me, given my current musical inclinations... but otherwise a good time. And wow, all the random faces out. The African Drumming was awesome, it was weird to see Meeshi so...mellow, haha. And who would of thought a bunch of lindyhoppers would break out into spontaneous polka dancing and then a serpentine whip thinger? righteous. By the way... I reeeeallly like the set up with the stage. you should bring more bands. |

Last night was cool. Lots of dancers who've been away at school were there. My kids start their Christmas vacation today at noon, so I had to leave early with Jenna because it was still a school night. But not tonight or tomorrow!!! I missed polka pit or whatever dancing broke out after I left. Meeshi, you did an amazing job on drums. I was watching you play the big drum with your right hand and then syncopate against it with the bell in the left hand. Very complex stuff. You did so well. Good job. Fun night! |

Yea Meeshi that stage WAS great. Where did it come from? Is it possible to have a band once a month at the firehouse?! =) |

Thank you all for coming last night! I had so much fun. It brought me so much joy to be able to merge two of my favorite activities, swing dancing and African drumming, together in one wonderfully playful evening. (I hadn't led the serpentine whip thing, since I was a long-haired hippie living in Santa Cruz.) The drummers loved the dancing, the dancers loved the drumming, and for 3 glorious hours, my two social worlds fused into one. And yes, we will have another band at the Firehouse soon. But for now, I just want to revel in warm fuzzies leftover from last night. Enjoy the rest of your holidays. |
