The Firehouse will be closed this Thursday, Dec. 26th, but will re-open for dancing on Thursday, Jan. 2nd. But not to fear swing-o-holics, Cafe Savoy will be open all through the holiday season. This Friday, we will have a very special, super-secret guest DJ all the way from Fairbanks, Alaska. More details to come... |
| |
who is going to be in town for this Friday's Cafe Savoy? |
| |
My brother is coming to town to house sit while we are away. Be sure to make him feel welcome! ![]() |
| |
i'll be there... my first cafe savoy at the new location! who'll come out and dance with me? |
| |
I'm going to be at Magic Mountain! I'm bummed I'm going to miss your brother...He is super fun to dance with. |
| |
Jenna and I will be there! Meg, I have a feeling it's going to be packed. Where else can everyone go to fill the parenthetical void between Christmas and NewYears, (unless you're among those who put up the $1000.00 to go to Swingout Northwest). I think Cafe Savoy is the only game in town. Plus, I think that by Friday some may feel the need to escape the family scene to blow off a little steam in order to preserve their sanity. Anyway, for a bunch of reasons I think Cafe Savoy is going to be filled to capacity. I hope so. By Friday I'll definately be ready to dance. |
| |
Shawn, what's your brother's name again? |
| |
Aaron. He'll be in town on the 25th! |
| |
Yeah, Santa is bringing me some of my favorite leads for Christmas!! First Tim, now Aaron...I guess I have been good this year. ;-) |
| |
And what about Tony? Are you going to be out on Fri, Tony? Maya, you need to drag him out! |
| |
I'll probably be there. I now have a box of Barbara Morrison Live at the 9:20 Special CDs to sell for Elliott. Is anyone interested in buying one? I'm sure a lot of the people that went up to the concert at Lindygroove already bought one, but I'm thinking there might be others out there that want one too. Its got a load of great Lindy music. Read my review for details... |
| |
I'd like to pick up another one, Ron. I want to mail it to a friend. |
| |
present and dancing Oh man I need to move my ass... Texas Barrrbeeeequeee. |

Meg... you need to drop by my pad and check out the place! call me! |
| |
can you guys tell me what the venue is like... specifically, is it entertaining for non-dancers? could i come and dance for just an hour, can my boyfriend can hang out and not be bored silly? |
| |
It's a cozy cafe, split into two sections, one for dancing and the other for lounging. The sections are connected by two large openings in the wall which separates them. There's a pool table and chess board in the lounge area. The coffee/smoothie bar in the lounge area has food as well. Yeah, you can just dance for an hour an leave. Your boyfriend should be comfortable just chillin'. |
| |
thanks jeff. all you had to say was "pool table" he's convinced! |
| |
Good! See you both tonight. |
| |
Sometimes we cover the pool table, but I think tonight it will be open. |
| |
sheeshh...and I thought you weren't dating non dancers Meg. you still in town? |
| |
yea, till the 2nd. gimme a call. i'll email you. thanks for the dances the other night. sorry i couldnt stay long. that venue was very surreal for me. in my highschool days it was a punk club. my high school sweetie's band played there all the time. very odd. |
| |
Sorry you both had to leave before the out of towners dance. Glad you made it for at least awhile. |
| |
Is the Firehouse open tonight, or will I have to go to the Car Show with Gene (yawn...) :-0 |
| |
Its definitely open tonight, and I'm DJing. And I won't play a single Christmas song! |
| |
How bout playing some DJ challenges though? I challenging myself to dance to them, and if it's too hard it's always fun to watch people try. |
| |
You mean like playing rock or funk songs to see if people can find a way to swing dance to them? I don't play a lot of those, I admit, but the other DJs seem to take care of that pretty well. I haven't played a hip-hop rhythm song for a while, either, because I haven't gotten anything new. But I can always dig out an older hip-hop song. |
| |
Sorry i didn't get back to you before last night, but yeah, I mean something a bit more challenging that you usually don't swing dance to. BTW, i enjoyed the new "happy hour" of faster songs, It'll be good practice for me. I liked how the songs were fast enough to be a challenge but not in the "i must balboa/shag" range. |
