I would love to go to LBTB every weekend but I work a lot of Sat's. The later you make it, the better for me. Like 5-7 pm would be perfect (if you had to narrow it down to 2 hrs - sounds like a good idea to me).

Jeff, I really don't see how it could have anything to do with you. You put all that work into it, for goodness sake! Somebody was just goofing around, I'm sure.

Jeff:

How come you decided to do it so early during the summer? I thought it was rad starting later and capping off the evening with fireworks last year.

BTW, I don't think advertising in the Reader would bring out more people. Tio Leos advertises its swing lessons every week... the place isn't packed like it used to be. The people who want to come, do come when they can and thats the way its going to be until the Gap does another commercial.

One of the venues in Houston (Numbers) just had a big jump in numbers through advertising. I'm trying to get details.

Thanks, Nat. I'm actually considering doing it, just because I know
people would love it.

Ian, I still want to do "Late Night LBtB" like last summer, and we WILL!!
But I did not want it to compete with an actual Saturday night venue, like
we used to have at the Marriott, or like what Meeshi is starting this Saturday.
Promoters of those events NEED to make money. I'm just doing this for fun.

Makes sense

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Jeff (Jeff) on Friday, June 21, 2002 - 01:42 am: Edit

Thanks, Laurel. I hope you're right. But I have a feeling it's two or three
people multiple posting. I could be wrong. Whatever. I'm usually flattered
by who doesn't like me anyway. And I can totally understand them not
wanting to come, since I'm pretty hard to avoid at LBtB.

And we do go until 7pm now every Saturday. And once Meeshi moves
"Caffe Solatto" to Friday's on July 5th I'll start having "Late Nite LBtB" again,
and go at least until the Fireworks at Sea World at 10 p.m.

Ian, btw, Chance actually put together the summer lineup, including
the times, teachers, and Dj's. It's kind of an experiment in progress.
I just turned him loose and so far I like it. It's not really conflicting
with other venues and does take place when it's a little cooler into
sunset, where people can just walk over to the restaurant and get
a pizza or burger, etc. before doing something else that night.

The key wedding venues in the parts of town we liked (Darlington House, La Jolla Women's Club, Thursday Club, etc.) were booked solid for the summer. Except the 4th of July! We figured it would give us a chance to have a longer honeymoon, see fireworks at the end of the evening, and let out of town guests have a four day vacation to San Diego.

So goes the truth.

I haven't dropped out of the scene completely...
but haven't been out a lot due to an inordinate amount of school work... so I'm curious... has the scene drastically declined in the past few weeks? I promise I'll come back don't worry, as soon as school calms down I'll be out every night, or at least a few nights a week. I miss you all and hope that you all keep your feet a hopin'.

Heather is MIA as well. She also has a non-dancing
Borg boyfriend who has "absorbed" her. She's now
part of the Non-Lindy Collective.

We are still out, just not as much. Yes this is partly due to the fact that we have non-lindy-dancing boyfriends, but they want to learn so you might be seeing some more of us while at the same time seeing more of them. Anyway, I still am "hopelessly-addicted- to-swing-dancing" and that will never go away, I just have to fit in other things too. And just to let you know... yes School really is a big factor right now, I'm graduating in May so this year is really kicking me in the behind.

I miss my Lindy family bunches...
Cari

Hey I go out... maybe not as much (or nearly as much) as I did... but I'm back at least thank you very much.

And unlike Cari, though I am dating a non-dancer regularly, he is not my actual boyfriend... therefor he can't be blamed. He will be escorting me to Cafe' Savoy this Friday though...

You obviously are not salsa dancers.
I heard that you are suposed to break on 1, but that the "ballroom" influence has half the country breaking on 2, as per the other Latin dances. I was taught to break on 2, but all the Salsa dancers I dance with break on 1. Since I just follow what's led, I can't be accused of doing it wrong :)

Rebecca, yeah, I'm not so sure about the Linguistics of swing. I have "A-You're Adorable", 6 swing songs in French and 1 in Swedish. And various songs by Slim Gaillard who made up words and phrases like "Flat Foot Floogie". Just not sure I can swing a whole CD. Let me ask around the community of swing DJs.

Hey Ron - Speaking of swing CDs by foreign artists, I have a Fred Buscaglione CD. He's a pretty good Italian swing guy...

Let me know if you want to borrow it.

He's famous in Italy for a song called "Picola".
It's a sort of love song..."Picola, Picola, Picola...Cosi!" Then I get lost. (language bariers you know)
