I'm happy to announce that all of Dennis's new album reviews, as well as his many revisions (he never seems to get them right the first time through, hee hee) are finally posted. He can offically stop bitching to me about getting them up. There are also a dozen or so new reviews from myself, and a handful from Jake (aka Bomp.) for a grand total of 235 reviews. |

Okay, you bastard, now you're making me off to be a jackass... and I prefer to let myself do that. Here's the little schpiel that's supposed to go with the revisions (note the date... that should tell you how long Reuben lagged on putting up the reviews): 3/31/2000 Besides adding about 50 new reviews, I went back and revised numerous old ones. I tried to add any more historical information that I was able to dig up. And although the revised ratings are essentially the same, now that I’ve had the chance to develop a good system (in my opinion), I adjusted some numbers slightly, for the sake of being consistent. Essentially, I decided that the numbers should refer to the average listenability, danceability, and sound quality of the entire album. For example, if an album has one or two great songs for dancing, but not much else, I’ll give it a slightly higher rating and mention that in the review, but I still won’t rate it as high as another album that has more good songs for dancing, even if none of these may be as good as the one or two on the first album. In any case, I tried to keep most of the reviews more fact-based, since listenability and danceability are pretty subjective qualities. -Dennis Hong Hey Reuben, do you think you could put this little announcement somewhere on the webpage, for a little while at least? interesting reviews.. every other album is rated a 9 or 10... they don't seem to be too critical. Its like reading reviews from a movie critic where the critic gives most of the movies 4 stars... Interesting, useful reviews in total, though. |

Yes, very true anonymous. There are only a few bad reviews in there right now, but they are far outnumbered by the good ones... except for all the ones Dennis bashed for bad sound (ie a lot of the Chronological label CDs). Personally, I choose to review a lot of my favorites first, I'm sure Dennis is doing the same. We've barely even broken into reviewing our collections... but don't worry, bad reviews will start showing up eventually. |
