I heard these guys on Saturday at the Belly Up and they are fantastic. They play around town on occasion and I'll be sure to put them on the calendar. I think Meeshi and I will try to get them to go to the Firehouse on Thursday night sometime soon (along with the La Jolla Allstars and Tami Thomas' quintet). |

It would be cool if you could put Cool Blue on the calendar as well. They are a jazz trio that plays at Juke Jive Cafe (is that the place?) occasionally... |
| |
Just let me know their schedule and I'll do it. I like it when they email me with it. I can also give you the password to post them on the calendar! Saves a great deal of time. |

Hey everyone-- I just wanted to put in my two cent's worth here...I hope it's still worth something. I, too, enjoyed listening to and dancing to the Bob Gordon trio. It was really cool to have a nice, relaxing evening sipping red wine, watching some "older" dancers cut the rug, and listening to some good old-fashioned swing and ragtime music. The trio consists simply of a clarinet, piano and drums. I found that I did not miss the sound of horns at all. Swing combos in town tend to be top heavy with horns, and it was refreshing to be able to hear the quieter, more subtle "tri-alogues" between clarinet, piano and drums. I'm going to do my best to get monthly dates at the Firehouse for smaller, swing combos like the Bob Gordon trio. We might have to charge you a little more to get them to play there, but it will definitely be worth it. As for the Marriott, I don't have as much control over the band booking as I used to. But if you like the sound of these trios or quartets, I think I can talk them into creating a budget for them. So check out the Bob Gordon trio, Cool Blue, Tami Thomas Quartet and/or others, and let me know what you think. meeshbop@hotmail.com Ok, a last minute plug, REMEMBER... The Marriott is closed this Saturday for the Frankie Dance Feb. 12--there's a Valentine's dance, please wear something red (Singles--that's me--are especially welcome) Feb. 19--BTO ($8 cover) Peace, Meeshi |

The Bob Gordon Trio plays on Tuesday nights at the Lima Bar and Grill, on La Jolla BLVD near Birdrock. It is an older crowd and the dance floor is small...BUT the music is great and the crowd thins later (they play 7-10pm). Highly recommended! |

Oh, if you are under 21, I bet that will not be a problem. It is very informal - just order something to pay for the space! |

How did everyone like Bobby Gordon?? I really am interested in people's impressions from the evening and am really bummed I couldn't make it. `Krista |

I liked them. The crowd seemed kind of small, which was a shame. Although I like bluesy and groovy stuff, I really love that old sound. If you closed your eyes, it kind of felt like you were back in time. |
| |
I really wanted to go, as I love that clarinet! Alas, I am still too sick to be out dancing. |
| |
There was a whole bunh of postings on the forum until someone (Shawn) accidentally erased them... to make a long story short... they were AWSOME!! and I personlly had a fabulous night! |
| |
Rad. I'm glad you all liked them. |
| |
Was there anyone who didn't? Just curious. |
| |
Did only three people go? |
| |
Krista, there were quite a few posts about Bobby Gordon at Champion, including one of mine. I think they must have been deleted with other threads the day Shawn was experimenting with the front page. People loved them, including me. I did mention that I would like to see them play in a more intimate setting. They're the type of band that I want to dance right next to. |

Ah nuts...I was looking forward to those posts. No one wants to post them again? |
