Several of us (Melissa, Chris, Shana, Benno, Karen, Bridget and Valena) were invited to dance at a big private party last night. The band was Swing Town. They are really good - hopefully we can get them to play a public dance venue sometime soon.

Chris tells me they play a swingin Be Bop style (I think). Whatever you call it, it was good. Perhaps at BreakAway some Saturday night?

I will stand corrected, they played swing and breech into a little be bop. The leader, Michael Carr, runs the Jazzman's Guild held every third Sunday at the Musicians' Union on Morenna Blvd here in SD. He said they get about 100 musicians and jam from 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm. He says they play mostly late 30's swing to early be bop, so mostly the music we dance to!! He is trying to establish a large weekend concert like Tammy Thomas does for Dixieland Jazz. He would really like it if some dancers start coming to these Sundays, b/c he loves the interaction between the musicians and the dancers.

I think we are going to try to get him and his band to play at Break Away!! They are solid and the guitarist jams, very similar to Charlie Christian. Most of their music was around 180 bpm, great for Balboa and Shag (Benno was loving it!).

Their sound was similar to the early Benny Goodman Sextet.
