This is for Jeff.......and anyone else who'd like to give kudos to that/those intructor(s) who helped perfect your Lindy circle. I'll start: As I mentioned before I had my first introduction to Lindy from Erin Stevens at PBDA. She gave me a solid foundation from which to begin in a totally un-intimidating environment. Soon after I became friends with a Lindy hopper from San Francisco (Leland Ho for those of you familiar with the scene) who began show me the importance of connection and musicality. He was also the one who encouraged me to take a Paul and Sharon workshop in SD. In fact he pretty much insisted! Not only was that the best workshop I’ve every taken, it was also where I first met Shawn. Thank you Leland! |

For teaching me it, Margi. For making me dance it, just throuch genius of lead, Pete Betbasso from Chicago. |

Hey, I know Leland! I'm always bumping into him at workshops or in SF. I think my most influential teachers have been Meeshi (for his groove, musicality, and fun-loving goofiness) and Jamie and Elisha for fine-tuning and tweaking (I can still hear Elisha's comments in my head when I'm dancing sometimes). I miss having them around - anyone know how their classes at UCSD have been going? Steven Mitchell's and Paul and Sharon's workshops here in San Diego were also very influential - especially Steven because he focused so much on the follows that particular weekend. |

Rob Van Haaren and Diane Thomas of San Francisco: for the basics and showing how fun Lindy Hop is Meeshi Sumayao and Emily Belt: for getting me to see how creative and how communicative the dance is Paul Overton and Sharon Ashe of San Francisco: for musicality and getting me started in listening to the music Frankie Manning: for his infectious love of the dance and for inspiring me when I was first working on my swing-out. [Jeez, if an 80 year-old guy could do this, I should be able to do this...] All the workshops/teachers I ever learned from along the way (too many to list): I always left with something new to try out and incorporate into the dance. And the first hundred follows: for putting up with this rhythmically challenged newbie. =) |

Johny L.: for putting on a great show the first time I saw BTO at Neiman's and catching my dance-attention. Meeshi: for his emphasis on "feel the music". Emily: for, well, for dancing like that. Margaret: for technique (I'm not done with that yet) Lowell Gosser: for teaching me charleston(sp?) moves and how to let loose, mix it up and just have a good-ol'-time on the dance floor. Charlie Y.: for being so flamboyant on the dance floor (even before he was really good!) Steven Mitchel: really impressed me! The Firehouse patrons, each and every one of you: for practice, practice, practice. |
