If any of you have ever seen the "Can't Top the Lindy Hop" video (celebration of Frankie Manning's 80th Birthday) you might be able to give me some scoop on what I saw on the video. One of the featured performances was with Ryan Francois w/Julie Oram (Ryan's ex-partner0 and Steven Mitchell w/Erin Stevens. Each couple would take turns out on the floor (kind of a like a duel almost). At the end of the performance, something very strange happened. At first I thought it was my imagination, but after viewing it dozens of times and conferring with my friends (who confirmed what I saw) I realized that something was definitely amiss. At the very end of the performance as the two couples are taking their bows they begin to shake hands and congratulate each other. But when Erin goes to shake Ryan's hand, he suddenly side-steps out of the way! When she tries once more, he deliberately side-steps again and hides behind Steven. What the heck went on there? As I started to think about it, has Ryan & Jenny ever taught at Catalina? Or any other PBDA function? For that matter, I can't think of a single event where Ryan and Erin were there simultaneously. Does anybody know what's the scoop? I heard rumor that Erin and Ryan had some kind of a fallng out. Can anyone confirm this or provide and info? Check out the video yourself. ![]() |

That is very interesting! I haven't watched that clip in a long time. In fact, I taped over it. Wow, that would be perfect for the Overheard Column... |

I always thought that Ryan's mentor and teacher was Steven. No? I will have to watch that video again, but the fact that they haven't taught at Catalina does seem odd.... |

It's actually a reasonably well known fact that Ryan does not like Erin Stevens and will not have anything to do with her. I do not know the specifics as to why, however I am sure they are based on the well known underhanded practices of the Stevens Sisters. |
