Los angeles Style Lindy

My understanding of the correct use of the term is: an encompassing term of swing/jitterbug of LA in the 30's and 40's. It includes Balboa, shag, and lindyhop as Dean Collins brought from the Savoy Ballroom.

Dean didn't bring Bal or Shag to LA. It was already there. When Dean brought Lindy, they incorporated it into what they were already doing.

Dean Collins Style(also known as Dean's Dance)-
Lindy taken and modified from the Savoy Ballroom by Dean Collins.

Smooth Style-
A style of Lindy taught by Dean Collins in his later years. It is considered by many as a toned down version of his style of Lindy from younger days. Some have actually called a Lindy for retired dancers. Johnathan Bixby and Sylvia Sykes were the major exponents of this style, having studied directly under Dean during his later years.

Hollywood Style-
Trademark name created and owned by Sylvia Skylar to describe the style of Lindy they invented. They have cited numerous dancers and resources from the 30's and 40's as their sources. Including Lenny Smith, Jean Vealoz, and others).
Later caught on as the catch all of for just about all styles of LA-based originated styles of Lindy.

Hollywood Movie Style-
Term used by others to denote a style created using an amalgamation of dancers who were featured dancers in movies during the 30's and 40's. Synonymous with Hollywood style, but not trademarked.

LA Style-
Term coined by Peter Loggins to describe all encompassing swing dances and styles indicative of the LA area during the 30's to 40's.

I didn't mean to imply that Dean was related to Balboa/shag, I meant more of your LA style definition- bad diction on my part. But you caught on to the point which is, since the dictionary apparently defines "authentic" as "better" which is not the way Tammy was using it, I wanted to create a dictionary so that when we have these debates/discussion it doesn't break down because were not all speaking the same language.
