Novel idea spotted on Yehoodi. Anyone up for a trial at one of the upcoming dances this week? Peter Loggins on Yehoodi wrote: yes, it's excatly the same thing as the soul train line except with swing music. two lines are formed about 10 feet apart facing each other. and beginning at one end dancers solo or couple down the middle to the other side. In Arizona the two rows of people were the line to go down the middle and once your journey is completed you get at the end of the line and cheer as others strut their stuff. I swear it was so damn funny in Arizona where the scene is well mixed of all stereo types it made for one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed..... You all have to try it....it rules, I think we'll take it on the road! The songs used were Luncefords "Life is fine" and Calloways "are you alreet" ,I forgot the other song. Spread the love. |

Has anybody in SD done this yet? It's a total blast! it's a nice change from the standard Jam circles with the same couple doing the same stuff over and over. Here you can go Solo or as a couple and you just strut your way down the line doing whatever feels right..... Pure feel good! |

I saw one @ the ALHC last year. They're swell! I like it because it's a chance to go and jam on your own...no partner neccesary. It's fun to see what people come up with. BTW, I think that the soul train thing was actually a revamp of a 50's stroll. It's basically the same thing where people kinda jam down the middle of the line, only the lines on the side do a camel walk...usually to the song, "the stroll." |

Yes, Peter, that is a cool idea. When I went up to SF a few months back, we spontaneously broke out into one of those "Swing Trains" or should I say "Blues Trains". Hey, weren't you there, Kate? I vaguely remember you bluesin' it up with Mr. E. ;) Anyway, I was in SF for the Norma Miller B-day celebration and we had just left Swing Bowl looking for an after-hours place to dance. We decided to invade this nearby Blues club with a mostly African-American clientele. You should have seen the looks on their faces when we trickled in, slowly at first then flooding the place with our "presence", squeezing over 30 of us on a relatively small dance floor. The crowd tripped out and loved our energy and so did the band. After a few songs of groovin' the joint, the "Blues Train" spontaneous combusted. Partnered or not, dancers strutted across the floor to the encouraging cheers of the lined-up dancers and the audience members. Some of the audience even got up out of their chairs and with a "Let ME show you how it's done" attitude proceeded to school us on how it's REALLY DONE. Some of those hips were on fire! Yee-ow! It was the coolest mix of "dancers" and "non-dancers" having fun and playing together that I'd ever seen. In a "Blues Train", there are no wrong moves. It's all about expressing yourself...and that's what it's all about! (Clap, Clap) Have a super day, Meeshi |
