Now that we have a topic created, I need some feedback/ideas. What workshops have people enjoyed so far? What would you like to see in the future? We have some great stuff comin' up in July and August. African Dance, Argentine Tango, Music Discussion with Bands, Rhythm tap & body percussion... I'll publish/post a full calendar in a few days. What Ideas do you have. What dances/teachers would you like to see teach during this hour before the Rocket? This is one of THE BEST and easiest ways to expose yourself to other dances and music in SD. We bring it to you. Don't miss out. Let us know what you think. Jim & Margie |

I don't know about workshops, but you can bring Cool Blue back anytime. Just as an aside, I notice dancers clap sometimes after a song they really enjoyed. Its a good way to give feedback to the DJ. Usually its a faster, high-energy song. Saturday at Lindy by the Bay, people clapped after the 115 BPM "Bon Squeep" by Cool Blue. Of course, it could have been because a bunch of people watched a couple do an awesome dance, but I think it was the song. |

Thanks Ron. I'm already working on that one! Appreciate the input. And I second the thought on clapping for songs you like (DJ or Live Music) always. |

Question for EVERYONE: Margie and I have the opportunity to bring Jenn & Justin down to the Rocket for an evening of special dj'ed sounds and instruction from two of California's best dancers & teachers. The only thing is they can't make it to the club 'til a little later because of work in Orange County. For this reason we can't do the usual 8-9pm mini-workshop class. SO... HERE'S THE QUESTION: I need a head count of who'd be interested in a Jenn & Justin package deal for the night. Justin & Jenn dancing and dj'ing at the Rocket with a specialty class for all levels(perhaps balboa or 20's charleston)part way through the evening. This setup at a cost of(say $9/8 students). Who's in? This is a great way for SD to make the trip down worth their while, benefit from out-of-town talent, and have an all around great evening with them. |

Yes! |
| |
Sounds great! I'm in. |
| |
Yep |
| |
yes... if its before july 19th. |
| |
Sounds excellent. I vote for Balboa! |
| |
I'm in for this, too. Justin and Jenn are great. |
| |
I'm in and I vote for balboa. |
| |
I'd 3rd bal. There's one lead I can kind of bal with. With everyone else it's bumper cars - and I know it's me. I need to go to bal boot camp. Nat |

So I believe Sue Palmer is playing the Rocket again tomorrow night. I'll be DJing the breaks. Note, for better or worse, depending on your perspective, this is the last time I'll be DJing for a few weeks. I'll be on vacation! Anyway, Sue Palmer always puts on a good show. A good mix of fast boogies and slower blues. |
| |
Yes, Sue Palmer is gonna swing the house hard! And Don't Forget... AFRICAN DANCING & DRUMS from 8-9pm! $5. It's gonna rock! I've talked to some great dancers (some from out of town) who are going out of there way to be there. This is a great opportunity for SD lindy hoppers. I encourage everyone to stop in to dance and enjoy the drumming. See you all there. p.s. Get there at 7:45 to register for class so we can really use the whole hour! |

Hey Jim, what's the tally on possibly having Justin and Jenn down to teach and DJ at The Rocket? Will you be making an announcement about it tomorrow night? Got word from Lindy Bill that Justin and Jenn had just done a great workshop in Hawaii over the weekend. Waikiki is Lindy's new home (for the past 7 weeks now)and says their scene is thriving. He goes out dancing three to five nights a week. What a guy. Anyway, having Justin and Jenn down to teach would be a great treat for us. Also gang, they'll be teaching at Laughlin this August for the Desert Swing Camp. |
| |
The tally is: YES! They're on to come down, teach and dj on July 24th! They'll be down here between 8:30 and 9pm when they'll do a demonstration and teach a class in Carolina Shag! Jenn & Justin are 2 of just a few people on the west coast who are doing this dance. It's Smooth, is done to some great music and involves some really fancy footwork. We can't wait to have them here! Spread the word, and don't be late. July 24th 8-12am. |
| |
Wow, I couldn't believe this when I saw it! Jenn and Justin coming to the Rocket! Great! That will be a night worth coming out and skipping rehearsal. Carolina Shag is a great dance, complete opposite of lindy. It has a great deal of influence from lindy, but those South Carolinians made it their own. It's the only dance, that I know of, that is a state dance in America. I hope Jenn and Justin bust out some of their kick-ass balboa too. Hey, why not have them teach a few classes? They jam at Balboa and Charleston! What a night this could be, music could range from 300bpm down to 110bpm. This could be the making of one of the greatest nights at the Rocket in months!! For all that don't know, Jenn and Justin are well accomplished dancers that can burn through the fast songs and hang the slow songs! Versatility baby! |
| |
The California State dance is West Coast Swing. |
| |
Thanks Jane, didn't know that. |

Hey everyone. Bill (white t-shirt and khakis man) just had a birthday on July 21st. So in honor of his birthday, I think it would be great if people came to the Rocket, on July 24th, in a white t-shirt and khakis. If you don't have any, then borrow one from a friend. We need your help so that we can show Bill what a great guy he is. PS Dont tell him... its a surprise... |
| |
Oh that would be sooo funny! A whole room of people wearing white tshirts and khakis. He always wears that. And what we discovered during the party at his apartment? in his closet is a stack of white tshirts and a stack of khakis! So we now know it isn't just the same one endlessly recycled. |
