It was fun, but I was feeling a bit sick so I didn't dance much myself! And as much as I like Basie, 2 1/2 hrs of Basie was enough to satisfy me for a while. It was fun ending the night with 250 BPM Jumping at the Woodside, an awesome 30's Basie classic for sure. We kept a playlist which I'll post when I get around to it. Congrats HopMichael for winning the Basie compilation I made, for correctly identifying the song that wasn't Basie. It was easy, though... George Gee playing Blues for Stephanie! |

Last night was awesome! I had the best time dancing to all of that great music that you guys selected for us. Thanks again. It was swell. |

Hey Gene, where were you last Thursday at the Firehouse? I was all ready to play the song "Come Out and Play" by Richard Cheese from the CD you loaned me... I had fun spinning that night, and I actually got two complaints for playing too much fast, yes, fast music. |
| |
Dang! Sorry about that, Ron. I've been really busy with work lately and I'm so far behind on my Christmas stuff(cards and shopping) that I've resigned myself to "be a man" again this year and do my shopping at the last possible minute before Christmas. Ah, some things never change. Will the Firehouse be happening this Thursday? If so, I'll definitely be there! You can finally "bring on The Cheese!" |
| |
Yes, both the Firehouse and Cafe Savoy will be open this week, but Mel and I will not be holding our usual Thursday night classes beforehand. It's prime shopping time and I've got finals. Classes will resume next week. And, Ron, I finally fixed the calendar so that the Firehouse DJ schedule is now accurate. Happy Holidays! |
| |
Alright, Meeshi!! It will be nice having a few nights of dancing before Christmas. |
| |
Meeshi is DJing this Thursday (or in combination with somebody else), so you'll have to wait to here "Come Out and Play" until the 27th! Hey, I haven't even STARTED my christmas shopping yet... |
| |
Last year, I began my Christmas shopping on Dec. 24th at 2:30pm and finished that day at 4:30pm. I thought that was totally insane and uncharacteristic for me. I accidentally finished really early this year. I did most of my Christmas shopping by accident at Balboa Park's Christmas on the Prado in Spanish Village. If you are looking for something unique and not too expensive, check out some of the guilds in Spanish Village. The Pottery Guild there has all sorts of cool things. |

That was an awesome unofficial kick-off to the swing exchange last night at the Firehouse! Lots of people, great energy! Sorry about the sound going out. Please don't put stuff on, next to, or behind the speaker! One time the speaker cable got shorted, the other time the main power cord for the whole sound system was dislodged... |
| |
I'll be Djing this Tuesday at the Rocket and this Thursday at the Firehouse. I would love to see a big crowd at both places! I'll be playing some of the new music I played at the exchange, as well as older stuff. One other thing I know I'm going to do is play one jazz waltz each night. I'm learning to Waltz so I need the practice! (DJs perogative...) |

Hello wonderful San Diego Dancers. I'll be visiting San Diego from San Francisco this weekend, starting out with the delightful dancing at the Firehouse. Will anyone be out on this Valentine's day? Plans for the weekend include dancing at Clayton's and the Champion, of course, but also getting a group together for surfing on Sunday... Any takers for that? |
| |
I'm guessing there will be some people out tonight, although I have the feeling the crowd will be thinner than usual. Since Peter Strom is in town, that might bring out a few extra people who wouldn't normally be there. |
| |
Salut Charles, comment ca va? There should be a reasonable number of people out tonight. I have to admit that I make it a rule never to go out with my boyf on Valentine's itself. The restaurant's are crowded, service is terrible, and I dunno, it seems kinda cynical going out for a meal cause it's expected. That said, if yout looking for a great restaurant, we hit Royale Brasserie on 5th, right down by the convention center last Sat, and were bowled over. Fantastic food (gooooood French food, v. authentic), wonderful decor and ambience, killer wine list. |
| |
I'll be out at the Firehouse for sure tonight. I hope I get to see a good turn out. I'm still in my childhood and so I have Valentines for people. Come tonight and you shall receive yours. I hope I didn't forget anybody. |
| |
If I didn't already have the biggest Lindy Crush on you San Diego dancers, tonight would have pushed me over the edge. I was told the crowd was lighter than usual, but there was dancin' a plenty, and fun dancing at that (I'm not surprised), and the energy was so incredibly positive it would have been fun to just sit and bask in it. I think you folks have your Lindy Love down. As usual when an evening goes well, the music was right there, with some fun new stuff but everything in a deep swinging groove. Kudos to the talented DJs. Watching Cary with an armful of Valentines going about in a most businesslike manner making sure everyone got theirs (thanks for including me!) was a blast. For those who left too early for this late bird tonight, or who were otherwise engaged (I myself am all with Nat on giving the V-day outing a miss) I hope to catch you tomorrow or the day after at Clayton's or the Champion. |
| |
Charles, sorry I left early and didn't get to dance with you. Tonight at Claytons? |
| |
For all of you who I didn't see last night I still have your Valentines. I hope to see you at Clayton's tonight to deliver them all. I'm glad you all appreciated them. |
| |
I love handing out Valentines. What can I say, I'm just a big kid! |
| |
We loved our Valentine's cards, Cari! Thanks again! Charles, it was so nice dancing with you last night! (Of course it always is!) I'm so glad that you're here this weekend! See you tonight at Clayton's. |
| |
Thank you Cari for the card, and Susan for the choccy. Awww. |
| |
I'm jealous! I didn't get any chocolate! |
| |
You're welcome! (That goes out to all of course.) |
| |
I almost forgot, thanks Susan for the yummy Chocolate. It tasted great and was fun shapped too. |
| |
By the way, Meeshi (or guest) is Djing this Thursday instead of me, I'll take his day next Thursday. I'm going skiing in Idaho.. |
