Oh jam circle, where art thou? It's been such a long time, I can't even remember how they start. Do they burst out spontaneously, or are they called? It seems like when one is prone to start, a bunch of goober newbies (apparently not recognizing what it is) jump in all at the same time and make it retarded. But even that hasn't happened in a while. I think they are more likely to happen when places are packed. When its at the Rocket or Champion, they are a lot less likely to happen because its so big and there's so much room. Even the Firehouse usually doesn't have enough people to support it. Maybe I'm wrong. How sad that newer dancers haven't had the chance to see some cool jam circles. I think they are definitely one of the things that get people psyched about getting into it. |
| |
I know I haven't seen one in at least a year, which is why this took me by surprise last night. |
| |
I don't think they should be called. One broke out at the Rocket party a couple weeks back, but they are pretty rare here. |

Jenna Ferguson got one started single handedly about a month ago at Neiman's. There were lots of great dancers there so it was fun and interesting. She just spread both arms out on a great fast song, backed folks up a bit around a couple goin' for it, started clapping, and bam! Jam Circle!! I think it's a great time to showcase aerials and other trick moves that couples who dance alot together have been working on. I love it when they spontanesouly erupt around a couple that's so fantastic to watch it becomes hard to dance next to them. All it takes is just a one or two couples to stop, look and start clapping to get one going. |

Witnessing my first spontaneous Jam at Neiman's back in the Johny Loyde days (4 years ago?) is what got me interrested in Lindy. I haven't experienced anything like that since. |

I had the same thing.. it was at a BTO show at the Catamaran. Probably my 3rd time out dancing, and a jam broke out. It had Meeshi and Johnny Lloyd with Margaret and Jenna all trading off. I was blown away, not only by the dancing, but the fact that they all could switch partners and still look awesome. |

Tim & Ernie, You guys need to come up to Tia Juana's. Its like the old Mems on Monday night. I know, I already said that. And when you come, throw Gene in the car with you. |
| |
oh oh, are you coming tonight?! |
| |
Okay...start making plans. Two great reasons to make the drive up to Tia Juana's in Irvine. (only 35 minutes north of Oceanside) Wed. the 30th. Come up to start off your lindy Binge (OC/LA Exchange). Wed. the 13. Valentines day party. Details are being arranged. Always PACKED with awesome dancers (130-200) Shesha |
| |
Amber and I are planning on coming up next week. We're both in North County so it won't be a far drive for us ... but if anyone wants to carpool, you're welcome to join us. Email me and we'll chat. |
| |
Yeah! Come visit good ol Irvine! |
| |
If you can come early to the Lindy Binge in OC now is your chance to check out Tia Juana Lindy? It's gunna be packed! http://www.swinginfo.com/tiajuanalindy.html |

SD Can I recommend to show up at TJ's? Like Shesha mentioned, it would be the perfect time to check it out - due to the whole binge kickoff. We had such a blast last week that I keep inviting more and more people from here in No. County to carpool with me. Its actually closer for me to drive to TJ's than any venue down in SD. TJ's gets a random assortment of dance levels and ages - so no reason to feel out of place no matter where you're coming from. |
| |
I might be going tonight. We'll see... |
| |
I just got an e-mail from Shesha saying that a "grip" of San Diegans are coming tonight. Who's comin' up? Besides Amy of course, who has made many a man's top 10 girls we like to dance with list at Tia Juana's. |
| |
Hey Jeff if you go.. swing by and pick me up.. I can pitch in some gas $. Maya - you just made my day! |
| |
Yes, who is going? I've never been and am curious about what it's like up there. Thinking about making the drive but have no clue where it is either. |
| |
Well, I'm not going, need to rest. I haven't had any sleep, and want to save energy for dancing for THURS, FRI, and SAT. Hope you all have fun. |
| |
I didn't see one San Diegan there, much less a "grip" of San Diegans. You guys missed out last night. Wolfman dj'd. He plays a mix of 50s and neo-swing that might annoy 67% of the readers of this forum (wink), but he has such a great spirit. He's lots of fun. Don't miss out next time you get the chance to hear Tim spin. |
| |
I wish i could go, but alas, I have 8am classes Thursdays this quarter. |
| |
We will miss you! |
| |
I'm headed up tonight... I wonder if Hazel will carpool with me??? |
