For those that didn't get our e-mail, here's the information for what's happening this Friday: This week, our featured instructor will be Zana Pearce, originally from Portland, Oregon. She excels at Balboa and Fast Lindy, and we're very happy to have her as one of our regular Cafe Savoy instructors. Also, keep an eye out for world-class dancer Doug Silton, who is down in San Diego for the weekend. He and some of his L.A. friends will be stopping by Cafe Savoy this Friday, so be sure to say hello and ask them to dance. Don't worry, they probably won't bite! Tickets will be available at the Firehouse on Thursday, and at the door on Friday. Arrive early to make sure sure you get in. See you Friday! -Jeremy and Meeshi P.S. Make sure to take advantage of the Swing Dancers' Specials on the menu! |
| |
Also, if you want to get onto our e-mail list, send a message to swing@cafesavoy.com, or go to the Cafe Savoy Website (which is still a work in progress). |

For details on what's happening this week at Cafe Savoy, check our home page, which, of course, is still under construction. |

Cafe Savoy was cookin' last night! What a blast! "Nostalgia Night" with Jeremy, Brian, and Meeshi spinning tunes from 5 and 6 years ago that many of us danced to as beginners. Now that the dust has settled from the hype of it's grand opening, the size of the crowd showing up at the cozy "Caffe Solatto" restaurant/pastry lounge seems just right. And the floor feels good to me. I like this venue alot. Jenna had so much fun dancing with Ryan, Chance and Meeshi. Though she just turned 11 in May, she's developing her own style and was gettin' noticed last night as a pretty good dancer in her own right. One improvement I appreciated last night over "Claytons" was being able to order a turkey club sandwich at midnight! Yumm! Very nice people that run that place. |
| |
I agree! I had a blast! Thank you for the birthday dance. Jeremy, Meeshi, and Brian did an AWESOME job with the music. I don't think that I stopped singing! (don't tell my speech pathologist!) It was a really great time. |

Man! I'm bummed I missed out. Yah, I'm sure some people may be wondering what happened to my sorry little butt about why its not out dancing everywhere. Well, my butt is working itself off and so now I only have Sun/Mon off so far - maybe other nights...and maybe not Sun if I get called in. I'm "waitressing" at a cool joint in Carlsbad to earn rent which is why I guess I missed Brian's going away dance!!! Where in the world is he going... I mean after Hurang? (I'm sure I mispelled that) Cause if I can't call Brian to go lindy hopping at a non dance venue, I just think I'm gonna die. But I'm sure he's not gonna read this - but someone will tell him that I love him ... maybe. and its late and I just got off work, so quit your moaning about my post. |
| |
It's early! The LBtB "after hours" at my house just ended 5 minutes ago. |
| |
Jeff, you're a nut. :-) |
| |
err, maybe i'm gullible, but they're not really changing the name to "hot monkey love cafe" are they? |
| |
I think that's the greatest name a SD venue has had to date! |
| |
Actually, yes they are. The ownership is changing hands in a few weeks. Cafe Savoy will still be there on Fridays, though. The new people seem pretty cool from what I've heard, and they have some cool ideas. Stay tuned. |
| |
Hot Monkey Love Cafe? With a name like that, we along with our friends can fit in perfectly! We are SO there! Blues dancing is OUR thing. Where can we find this place? Sincerely The Van Dammes |
| |
Well, then I'm glad that Meeshi stuck with Cafe Savoy for the name of the club as opposed to using the name of the venue. I'm not sure I could say "I'm going to the Hot Monkey Love Cafe tonight" with a straight face. |
| |
ewwwww Gene!!! |
| |
We now have movie clips of dancing from Cafe Savoy up on the web site. The files are fairly large, but if you have a dial-up connection you can download them in about ten or fifteen minutes. Cable or DSL is optimal. We'll add more videos in the future. Have fun! Also, check out the Features page for the list of upcoming DJs. |
| |
Very cool! |
| |
Coming soon: A completely new look for our web site. It should be up and running by the beginning of next month, so make sure to check it out. Also, we have some great DJ's scheduled for September, so don't miss out. For the most up-to-date information, check out our schedule. See you on the dance floor! |
| |
Our new web site is up. Check out the video clips page for a bunch of new stuff, including a clip from the recent performance at the Firehouse and from the jam for Peter Strom at the old Cafe Savoy. |

hey, so what's up with the "real men don't dance drunk" motto? |
| |
Yes, that is kinda lame. |
| |
We are trying to target the SDSU kids. Hence the reference to drinking. I think a lot of dance clubs are popular because you are able to drink. Swing dancing is different, though, and we're trying to take advantage of that. |
| |
Um, last time I checked, college kids drank (wasn't SDSU the model for Animal House?), so I don't get the motto. Also, doesn't that alienate the people who like to go out and have a cocktail or two before dancing? We're not lepers after all. |
| |
i like the motto. it's an honest statement...bold and stratight forward. i applaud. |
| |
"Swing dancing is different." Many of the best Lindy Hoppers around today are big drinkers. Many of the best Lindy Hoppers back in the day were big drinkers. And think of the musicians bar tabs. It's a very silly motto indeed. |
| |
Honest for some people...exclusionary for others. Why force your (general your) morals on others at a public club/event? |
