I'll be in San Diego for work next Tuesday and Wednesday nights - any suggestions as to where to go dancing, since there are two places listed for each night on your calendar? Some place with drinks might be best, so I can bring my non-dancing coworker...Many thanks! |

Hey, Catherine, Too bad you can't stay an extra 4 days. Our "San Diego Sleepover" mini exchange weekend begins that Thursday. Okay, back to what is. You're here on Tuesday and Wednesday. Well, let's see. Tuesday. The Stilletos at Henry's Pub sounds fun. http://www.henryspub.com/where.html It's in the heart of the downtown "Gaslamp" district. I think it's got a pretty good wood floor and there's some room to dance. Not sure about the band. They sound fun (pop up window from Calendar). "All Things Swing" in Point Loma is beautiful, but the open dancing time from 9 to 11 or so is DJ'd and there's no bar. The "Brigantine Restaurant" is just a few doors down, so you could hit that from 7 to 9 and then walk over to "All Things Swing". Once there, your coworker might end up wandering back to the Brigantine. I'd do the Henry's thing with your coworker. Lots of options downtown even if Henry's isn't happening. Wednesday. Martini Ranch and Patrone. Lots of fun. Great bar. A wood floor but not much room to dance, but an environment a non dancer will be comfy in. Often Meeshi and I will head on down with just one or two follows and have a great time. It would be fun, (now that I think about it Christina), to have a "San Diego Sleepover Orientation" at Martini Ranch on Wednesday before the mahem begins. That would be so cool to have about 10 couples crash the place. We'd be dancing everywhere, including the sidewalk out front. I don't recommend Victor's. It's just not where you and a coworker will be entertained. Martini Ranch is also in the midst of the dowtown "Gaslamp" district. There's an event on Wednesdays in Irvine that serious dancers are heading up to. It's put on my Shesha and Terra Marvin. It's only one hour north in Irvine. It's called Tia Juana's. Dancers who went up last Wednesday had a great time. http://www.ocswing.com/tiajuanalindy.html Anyway, call me if you want. Hope you have fun. Jeff 619.339.7117 |

Yeah!!!! Wednesday night at Martini Ranch! I like that idea of the "Sleepover Orientation". Thanks, Jeff. I'll come after tango. And then during the band breaks, it's fun to go around to the other bars and dance in their hip hop room, etc. Any other takers? |

Christina, you found my hidden message to you!! You're just too sharp. Actually, in this case, too kind, coming to the aid of a wayward traveler looking for lindy. If you want to push the Wednesday Night thing at Martini Ranch you better post another it under the Sleepover thread so people see it. |
| |
I think I'm going to try to come to Martini Ranch if I can. |
| |
me too.... hahahaha... if Meeshi'll preoccupy the doorman. bleh. |
| |
Thanks so much for the suggestions - I'll definitely try to come by the Martini Ranch (will they make me a cowgirl martini?)- I won't have time to drive up to Irvine that night anyway, since I have to have dinner with my San Diego Auntie and crazy cousins. And I'll see what happens on Tuesday night too - I wish I had known about the sleepover - but I'm already planning my outfit for the lindy prom... Jeff I will call you if I get lost! Catherine |
| |
What is the "Lindy Prom" anyway? I've heard the term a few times but haven't asked anyone yet. |
| |
its our exchange dude. |

I just checked out "www.lindyexchange.com" and got the info. Thanks! |
| |
Woo hoo! I'm excited, because originally I heard that it was going to be the weekend before. That is during my college graduation and I was going to have to miss it because I was going to have to spend time with visiting family. Now that it is later I will definitely be there. Yeah, I can't wait. |
| |
dude, what happened to you, you don't ever come out anymore. |
| |
Gone dating.... |
| |
Gone studying may be even more accurate... |
| |
Hell, i go to UCSD... and I don't study... |
| |
Well, I was feeling kind of out of it since I didn't know about the sleepover (a friend up here just told me about Christina's evite) but I don't feel so bad if some San Diegans don't know the theme for their own exchange..now I feel positively in the know! Thanks so much for your responses on here - hope to see you Wednesday! |
| |
LindyProm is actually the REAL exchange in May (with Barbara Morrison!)... the sleepover is just... uhh.. a sleepover, for 4 days. |
| |
Just a sleepover? Go to the "San Diego Sleepover" thread and check out the schedule of events. Not a bad 4 days of events for a non-exchange, wouldn't ya say? Hmmmmm? |
| |
Hello all you friendly dancers - thanks for the dances and hospitality- I had a lovely time - so sorry I couldn't stay for the weekend, I'm sure it will be a blast. Come on up and visit in SF, why don'tcha? See you soon, I hope! |
