| |
Also, vote in our web poll to choose who you want to see next year. |
| |
It's been a while since Campus 5 played at the Aubergine, so I hope to see everyone out this coming Sunday. |
| |
i should be there. |
| |
Julius, are you coming down for Dec. 14th? I am going to buy the VIP pass and so far, Vanessa, Patrick, Mike and I are thinking about going. Shauna is considering going too (and possibly performing if I've got the right weekend). Are you game? |
| |
for stompy jones? i could be convinced. sadly the drive is no longer as alluring because i don't have the studly car anymore! hee hee. just kidding. i will probably go. |
| |
You're a stud without the car Julius. Come on down anyways. I bought the VIP pass, so let me know if you're in. |
| |
I don't think I can let the cat out of the bag yet, but we have some awesome bands coming up at Aubergine next year. Make sure to reserve Jan. 4th on your calendar. It's going a crazy night. |
| |
Sunday Jan. 4th: Jump Jones. The website will be updated shortly, and I will have more information on the rest of January's bands soon. Questions? E-mail me at ye_dancer@yahoo.com or call me (619)729-2900. |
| |
Sunday Jan. 11th: Bill Magee. Last time we had Bill Magee, EVERYONE loved him. He has an awesome band, so don't miss this date. The website will be updated shortly. Hopefully. |
| |
Oh, I see. Yes, when I said reserve Jan. 4th I was not referring to Jump Jones. Not that Jump Jones isn't a crazy band. It's just that I was actually referring to another band, which will most likely be playing on Jan. 25th. However, the deal has not been sealed yet, so I can't say anything. More details to come. In the meantime, take my class. Oh yes, the website is now updated. |
| |
Jan. 18th: AUBERGINE CLOSED FOR PRIVATE ENGAGEMENT. We will be open on the 25th, though. Band TBA. |
| |
So what does that mean for the classes at the Aubergine? They are cancelled for the 18th also? Just checking. Thanks. |
| |
I'm not sure yet. Details to come... |
| |
Coming soon: Royal Crown Revue. This promises to be our biggest show yet. I'm sure the energy will top even Steve Lucky and Stompy Jones. More details to come... |
| |
Royal Crown Revue huh? that's the first band I performed with when i was 14...good times. they are really fun and super nice guys. |
| |
Royal Crown Review...Awesome! |
| |
Yet another plug... The Radioland Rugcutters will be performing two new routines at Aubergine this Sunday (as well as one on Thursday at the Firehouse). There will be several scary aerials, which we have just learned. Come see the danger! Come witness the potential fiasco! On another note, it will be Leslie Friend's last day of dancing for the new year because she will be undergoing foot surgery Monday. Come say your farewells to this most excellent Friend. |
| |
Does anyone have a dv camera with night vision that would be willing to record tonight's performance for us? A camera with firewire would be great. |
| |
We had a great time last night. If anyone taped the performance, I'd really appreciate a copy. Also, I'd like to mention that Steve did the choreography on this one. And I'd like to thank Meeshi and Jeremy for letting us perform AND the rest of the members for working hard to put this together in a really short time. Sorry for the oscar speech. |
| |
I agree with Julius. You guys looked really good! There were some cute touches to those routines. I'm impressed, Steve! |
| |
too kind, too kind... |
| |
Yeah, it sucked! Just kidding! I really enjoyed it. |
| |
The performance was wicked sweet guys, great job. Good luck Leslie! |

Do they clean the Aubergine before the event on Sunday? Seems the floor was sticky, even the carpet was sticky. Couldn't they mop the floor, clean the carpets, at a minimum replace the stained table coverings? I didn't really want to put my coat down or touch anything much less hang out while the band was playing. I'm sure Saturday is their big night, and probably leaves the club the mess that it was, but can't they get their cleaning crew in on Sunday during the day before your event? It seems a quick mopping would improve the floor, if nothing else. And the table tops were just gross. I know swing may not be their biggest event, but can you negotiate better conditions? I'm feeling sorry for the previously mentioned private party next week, I hope they have a high tolerance for ick, or low standards. Aubergine sort of tries to promote themselves as an upscale restaurant, but having seen the condition of the club, I'm somewhat hesitant to eat there now. |
| |
By the way, I don't mean this as a reflection on the Stompin' at the Aubergine event or the band, dancers or other. It seems like a problem with the space, and I'm sure it is a normal condition after a big Saturday night. I'm just questioning why a club which promotes itself as upscale can't clean up before the next scheduled event in their space. |
| |
I'm not speaking for Jeremy, but usually someone powders the floor after they clean it. We asked them to not powder the main floor until after the performance because of the aerials we were doing. |
| |
This issue is something that has been a problem since day one, and is something that David and I are still working on. The club was not cleaned properly yesterday due to a communication problem, something which should not happen again in the future. One thing to remember is that our swing night makes the club very little money, so we are not high on their priority list. |
| |
I think that is part of my whole problem. Even if you don't make them a lot of money, they are positioning them as an upscale club. Having seen the way they maintain their space for your event, at least on this date, that doesn't really appear to be the case. I wouldn't even consider their space for private events, as I would worry wether they would clean it adequately in advance. It also makes me question the way they maintain the rest of the facility, and I'm not too keen to eat there now. (My friend wants to try them for dinner, but you know, maybe we aren't that important either, so are they planning on washing our dishes carefully and preparing our food properly?) Anyhow, it sort of speaks for the facility as a whole, I think. I wonder if they realize this. It's probably good to reiterate that I'm not commenting on the swing event itself or anyone involved with it, just on the practices of the Aubergine with regards to the space. I guess usually conditions are better, since you said there was some communication problem last night. So, hopefully things look up! |
| |
No dance tomorrow night at Aubergine (Jan 18), right?? |
| |
That is correct. However, there is Swingskool. |
| |
Hey, so who's playing this Sunday?? |
| |
Ummm, the Patriots and the Panthers. How sheltered ARE you, Laurel?!? |
| |
Playing what?? |
| |
The only thing that matters on Superbowl Sunday.... {8^P |
| |
I didn't know who was playing until I got there. Half time show sucked...What was up with the Justin/Janet boob showing thing?!?! |
| |
I didn't watch a speck of the Superbowl and I'm damned proud of it. :~P I was also too lazy to go dancing. Oh, well. |
| |
This Sunday Feb. 8th, we will be featuring Hot Rod Lincoln, playing by request for Tertia, who will be having her birthday party at the Aubergine. Don't miss it! Also this sunday, Meeshi's intermediate fast dancing class will start. I believe he is going to be teaching charleston variations a la Rhythm Hotshots, which promises to be an awesome class. And don't forget to introduce yourself to our new door girl Jojo. This Sunday will also be the last opportunity to buy advanced tickets for Royal Crown Revue! (Unless I happen to show up at the Firehouse next Thursday) |

Laurel, Laurel, how could you miss the Super Bowl? All the new commercials, a lively halftime show, all the parties and get-togethers with friends and family. Oh, and did I mention the game and how it was a great one this year? Laurel, if you had to work over the weekend, we can understand. The Aubergine? Oh, I almost forgot what the Aubergine was? Sherri and I went to one such Super Bowl gathering in Escondido. Sherri's not a big football fan(although she IS a Packer fan) but she and everyone there enjoyed an entertaining game. We even had a betting pool where squares with designated numbers were bought and people win after every score to keep things lively. The new batch of commercials were somewhat amusing this year. Anything involving the Simpson's will make me laugh. The AOL spots were funny. The 7up slam dunk contest spot was hilarious. The farting horse and crotch clamping dog spots were sophmoric at best. All the car commercials STILL SUCK!, and what's with all these commercials peddling sexual enhancement drugs for men? I know I'm getting on in my years but is this what I have to look forward to from now on? "Oh, honey, sorry to call you at work, but I have to tell you that you weren't...well, how can I say this without hurting your ego? Let's just say you didn't have your 'A' game last night. I can't have that. So honey, sugar, before you come home, how about stopping by the pharmacy after work and pick up some of those 'magic blue pills' for me? I need for you to do A LOT better for me tonight. I need for you to 'STAY IN THE GAME!'" How demoralizing. Too bad a great game like that had to be overshadowed by a racy halftime show that lacked any originality or minus a spark that U2 brought two years ago AND that cheap ploy for pub at the end of the halftime show by two has-been entertainers. I guess Janet had to upstage her brother Michael since he's been getting all the pub of late. I think it's time for the WHOLE Jackson family to go away, once and for all. And WHO IS this Justin Timberlake? Whatever. I guess after the backlash settles it's back to college marching bands for a halftime show, with an occasional guest appearance by Wayne Newton or Tom Jones or maybe Yani(not to mention more bad TV). Maybe it WAS a good thing you missed all the controversy last Sunday, Laurel. As for me, I guess I suffered from "Super Bowl Overload" and blanked out on the Aubergine. |
| |
Have you been hitting the Six Grapes again, Gene? Hahaha! |
| |
HAHAHAHA. |
| |
Gene Gone Wild Isn't that a video or something? |
| |
Next year I'm hanging out with Laurel. |
| |
Is Meeshi's lesson tonight at 6:30 or 7:30? |
| |
How was last night? I missed it. Got hung up watching the Grammy's. |
| |
Who's going to be at the Aubergine the next couple of weeks (Feb 22, 29, March 7, etc)? |
| |
Tonight is Bill Magee. We are closed the next week, and are working on some cool new bands to bring in during march. I'll keep everyone posted! |
| |
Lineup for March: March 7th - Jump Jones March 14th - The Fremonts March 21st - Danny Glass Trio (to be confirmed) March 18th - TBA |
| |
Question for everyone: Would you like to see Sue Palmer at the Aubergine. I've never seen her live before, so I have no idea what she sounds like. |
| |
Sue Palmer is really good boogie woogie! She would definetely be something different and fun. |
| |
Sue Palmer is good. When is Campus Five available again? |
| |
Sue Palmer is awesome. She played at the San Diego Swing Break 2000 Exchange, the New Years "Mini"-Exchange, and at the Champion Ballroom. Her band has tons of energy! |
| |
I thought Jump Jones sounded great last night. Good swing and blues. |
| |
The Fremonts are coming next Sunday. Spread the word! |
| |
This Sunday: Royal Crown Revue's Danny Glass will be playing at Aubergine. Don't miss it! |
| |
The band led by Danny Glass is called the Roaring Metropolis Swing Orchestra: "The RMSO is high energy quintet that draws its inspiration from a time when jazz music was pop music, and had one goal in mind - to get people moving! Using the guitar/bass/drum rhythm section of powerhouse swing band Royal Crown Revue as its backbone, the RMSO is fronted by the engaging and charming vocalist Val Peterson, and also includes LA veteran vibraphonist Eldad Tarmu. With a repertoire that is solidly based in the classic American songbook, the RMSO remains true to its moniker and swings like CRAZY from start to finish. With a look and feel that hearkens back to the real deal, this band will leave you breathless." |
| |
Good news: Stompy Jones will be playing at the Aubergine on May 9th. Tickets will be available to purchase online starting April 1st. More details to come.... |
