Don't miss the dj battle this Friday the 19th. I'll be battling Tony Quach from LA, who is one of my favorite DJs, and perhaps the DJ closest to my style. He's also a real nice guy. We'll both be spinning popular favorites, groovy tunes, and a few surprises. I won't be unhappy if Tony wins, but I'll be happier if I win! But this is definitely a night where the dancers win, no matter what. Chance has put a lot of effort into organizing this dj battle to promote the new venue, promote the djs, and to just give swing in SD a boost. The new venue is sweet, and this is a fun event. Be there. |
| |
San Diego really needs to support F2, it's a great venue, cool location and the dj battles are awesome. |
| |
Chance, could you post the updated DJ battle list here? When are the semi-finals for which rounds? |
| |
The Semi Final Rounds will work like this, but this is not fixed in order to allow some flexibility for DJs from out of town. November 7 ~ Semi Final Round 1 DJ BATTLE ~ Jeremy Barwick vs Winner Battle 2 November 21 ~ Semi Final Round 2 DJ BATTLE ~ Winner Battle 3 vs Winner Battle 4 |
| |
You should check out the website for DJ bios, and more details. www.cafesavoy.com/f2.html |
| |
Blah! I'm gonna be in TN or MS... have fun! |
| |
F2 is this Friday 9/19/03. It's going to be a blast. The FREE beginning lesson is from 8PM-9PM with Mel and I so tell your friends to stop by and learn to Lindy. The $5 intermediate lesson is with Debbie Gitt from around 8PM-9PM. Stop by and learn some cool new stuff. Tony Quach VS Ron Bloom in the DJ Battle. You decide who gets paid and who gets black balled. Plus, there will be FREE snacks in the cafe...So drop by the back, hang out, get a drink, and cool off. |
| |
sounds like f2 is going to be fun this week. i wish i could go. |
| |
F2 rocked last night...talk about amazing energy. Just so you know...Hell is freezing over -- I voted for Ron, he kicked Meeshis arse. |
| |
meeshi? what happened to tony? |
| |
And there was a jam, too! It was definitely fun. Tony's car broke down in Irvine. |
| |
sucks that his car broke down but it sounds like it was a good night anyway. A jam in SD? rock on! |
| |
I think it rocked partly because the place was packed with beginners, mostly kids, for a large portion of the evening and they brought a great energy to the room. A lot of the girls even looked the part in their cute '50s-style dresses. Ron, I thought you played to the crowd perfectly - great job! Can't wait for the Ron v. Jeremy battle - hee-hee! |
| |
I think Ron is chickening out. He's come up with some sort of excuse about not being able to make it for the 1st semi-final date. It's okay, though. I don't mind that he's too scared to battle me. Of course, I would beat him anyway, so I guess it's okay that he doesn't want to go through with it. |
| |
In case you didn't see the Video Clip thread, I have some clips from F2 last night on Cafesavoy.com. Check them out. Check out the footage from Mel and Chance's beginning class. There were probably about 50 or 60 people in it, maybe more. It was pretty awesome. |
| |
I was bummed that Tony couldn't make it, but it was a great night anyway. Susan, thanks! It was fun playing to such a large group of beginners. I think we all dug out the songs that would appeal to them most, and these songs, not coincidentally, are some of the most fun and energetic songs to dance to anyway. That a jam broke out was cool, but unusual, there were the right people there, and Meeshi played a song that made it happen. It was funny, all the leads were trying to get Amy to go in with them.... Because she makes them all look good! I hope it was clear who was djing at any one moment, so people knew who to vote for, for the music they liked... All in all, it was fun night, and Valorie's cookies were particularly scrumptious that night. Sorry to disappoint you, Jeremy, but hopefully one of the other semi-finalists can battle you on that date. I'll be on a plane to New Orleans for a vacation. Originally I didn't realize the plane left on Friday... Anyway, I think Chance has made the semi-finals flexible. |
| |
Don't worry, Ron. It just means that we now have a chance to fight each other in the Final Battle. |
| |
F2 is Tomorrow. Friday OCT 3rd! The INT Solo Charleston & Jazz Steps Class w/ Giselle is going to be awesome. I think I'm going to take it! Hope to see you there. And there will be some HOT JAZZ in the house when Giselle & Tonya battle! (See the bios at www.cafesavoy.com/f2.html) Tomorrow. BE THERE at 8PM! |
| |
It won't just be fast old music, though. I've heard Tonya DJ, and she caters very well to the crowd. She really thinks hard about her selections and does an awesome job of keeping everyone dancing. Also, she just DJ'd at Lindy Groove. |
| |
It was a great night, thanks to everyone that made it out... The winner was Giselle Anguizola!! |
| |
The last Preliminary Round of the Black Ball DJ Battle is this week! |
| |
Tonight! |
| |
who won? |
| |
Reuben Brown was the winner. |
| |
So far we know that Giselle Anguizola is in the Final Round that will take place DEC 5, 2003. The other spot in the Final Round will be determined by the battle between Ron Bloom & Reuben Brown on Friday NOV 21, 2003. This is not a battle to be missed for sure...For obvious reasons. F2 has been great thanks to all of you coming out to support us. Thank you!! The next couple of dances should be really exciting. See you soon, Chance |
| |
What! Jeremy, you let yourself get beat!? |
| |
Naw, I just felt bad about beating a lady, so I, uh, you know, let her win. Yeah. |
| |
So in the final round it's going to be Giselle Anguizola and Ron Bloom! Be there DEC 5. |
| |
Thanks to everyone who voted for me! |
| |
Ron beat Reuben??? |
| |
Okay, Ron, I have to be honest. I didn't expect to but I enjoyed Reuben's dj-ing more than yours that night. There I said it. |
| |
hahahaha |
| |
hahahaha |
| |
sorry, that was a duplicate post I swear. |
| |
Both DJs did a fantastic job. The REAL winners were the dancers. |
| |
hahahahah....that was beautiful. |
| |
I'm pretty sure I didn't mean that the way you took it. I picked all the DJs because I think they are good DJs, but I don't really get to listen to 3/4 of the music at F2 because I'm running around the whole time. |
| |
Laurel--I'm wounded! This from the woman who really likes the blues? Well, I'll just have to try harder to please you next time. |
| |
it was a beautiful statement. |
| |
Cool, just what I wanted you to say, Ron! |
| |
This was a great event by the way. Thank you to all of you who came for one or all of the battles. Congratulations to Giselle Anguizola! |

Friday night was awesome! Happy B-day Gene and Katherine!!! The band was awesome. Jeremy did a great job mixing it up. The vibe was high all night! Thank you all for coming. |
| |
Who's B-day is it this week? |
| |
FYI ~ In March the dance will be on the second Friday of the month because we do not want to conflict with the Balboa Rendezvous. The dance will be on MAR 12 & 19. We're working to bring you a performance by Ryan & Jenny on the 12th and a Jack & Jill Jam on the 19th! We're colaborating with Late Night Lindy at Memories to bring you a two night competition. That should be fun! |
| |
Maybe I'm confused. Isn't the Balboa Rendezvous in April? Or is that something different? |
| |
Is there anyone who is going to the 7:45 lesson tonight who could pick me up at the train station in Sorrento Valley at 6 or in Old Town at 6:26 and give me a ride there? |
| |
Where's Sorrento valley? I was confused. We're moving in March because of a conflict with the YMCA. We're moving dates in April because of Bal Rendezvous. |
| |
The Sorrento Valley train station is just north of Mira Mesa Blvd off the 5 freeway. Not far from work. I'm supposed to work until 7pm, but if you can't find anyone to pick you up there let me know. I may be able to sneak out early and get you. |
| |
Aw, that's really sweet. I just found a ride though, so don't worry about it. Thanks tons for offering. |
| |

| |
sounds pretty cool |
