Some west coast dancers hit Incahoots in Mission Valley on Wednesday nights. There's also a once monthly dance at Starlight on a Saturday. |

I think I'm the resident westie here. You can e-mail me if you want any info. SwingDiego, the "Super Bowl of Swing", just happened here this weekend. I guess you missed it! 4 all-night dances, 3 days of workshops and competitions. The best of the best from all over the US were there. Check out the comp results and videos of the 1st place winners at http://www.swingdiego.com Other than that: 1) the SwingDiego monthly dance is this Sat. at Starlight dance studio. It's usually the 4th Sat, but the comp event bumped it to this coming Sat. this month. 2) Innovations Dance Club has dances at Starlight: Every Friday 8-11 with a workshop at 7:15 in either Hustle, NC-2, Waltz, Country 2, or Cha Cha free with the dance. I don't know which dance the lesson is for this month. Every Sunday (except for the Sunday after the 1st Sat. That day there is no dance) The first Sat. of each month, with a 1.5 hour lesson before the dance in one of the above dances given by a national pro for an additional charge. Special dance events throughout the year, check their schedule (you can access their website through http://www.starlightdance.com All the above events are all ages. Be advised that Innovations is an older crowd, 40's/50's mostly. But some really good dancers go there regularly. And there are several younger dancers (18-mid 20's) who go. Incahoots is 21 and up, I believe, but all the best local dancers do go their on Wed. from 5-8ish. You will be dancing on a ridiculously crowded dance floor to a country music mix, but you will find a bit younger group (20's -50's) crowd. Wed. nights 6(?)-? out in Santee there is country line dancing at Mulvaney's. It's all ages, and since line dance music these days is funky and contemporary rather than country, it's very swingable and seams to draw a younger crowd. I sugest you bring a partner, I don't know how many wc swing dancers would be there. I think the same place has all ages on Friday, too. It's rock n roll/pop that night. It's huge and has one of the best dance floors in town! |
