Little known fact... Meeshi and I are going to be working together on this venue, a collaboration. We have some great things lined up for you, including a DJ Battle the likes of which San Diego has never before seen. The Battle begins Sept 5!! I'm still working on confirming the DJs, but this will not be something to miss!! And I know it's rather annoying to have a semi-regular venue, but we'll make it a regular venue when it's a smashing success. =) |
| |
That's right, Chance and I will be implementing some fun, fun ideas that will make F2 better than any swing venue that we've had before. So come and check out the space on Sat. Aug. 23rd, we'll be revealing our "secret" plans for the fall then. Meeshi and Chance's F2 in La Jolla... MC F2 LJ! Be there! |

There were over 150 people at the opening party! Talk about energy!!! Thank you to all who made it out. And the pizza was great! Remember: September 5th will be the opening night of the Firehouse La Jolla on a semi-regular basis, 1st and 3rd Friday. I for one thought the club had an awesome atmosphere...I loved the lights and the high ceilings, not to mention the top of the line sound system. We will be changing around the fans so that it will be a little cooler in there next time. Also, The Lindy Cafe & Lounge will be open for business in the back room with drinks and munchies starting Sept 5. So feel free to take advantage of that whenever you have the craving. We'll have water, sodas, frappuccinos, etc. as well as muffins, candy, corn dogs, bagel bites, etc. We might even get some ice cream sometimes or pancakes. F2 should be a fun place to both hang out and dance. And don't forget the DJ Battle! We have some of the best DJs in SoCal coming to fight it out for your vote...And you get to decide who gets paid and who doesn't. The first battle will be Jeremy Barwick (SD) versus Nick Williams (LA) On top of that there will be a free beginning lesson with Meeshi or myself from 8PM-9PM(so tell your friends), and a $5 intermediate lesson with a guest instructor also from 8PM-9PM. September 5th that instructor will be Nick Williams, the current Triple Crown Lindy Hop Champion. |

The opening was awesome! I had a great time. Badass venue, rad dancers, good floor, lots of mirrors for danceturbation (you know you like it), great sound system, and awesome lighting. What's not to like? Great job Chance and Meeshi! |
| |
The Firehouse La Jolla is the place to be this Friday! Jeremy Barwick vs Nick Williams in the DJ Battle. $5 Intermediate Lesson by Triple Crown Lindy Hop Champion: Nick Williams! Don't miss it! There will be tons of snacks and drinks in The Lindy Cafe & Lounge so drop by there as well. (In the back room...) In fact. First person to get the answer to this question and post it on this thread will get a few bucks worth of free stuff at the cafe. Fess Williams, Chick Webb, and Teddy Hill have one thing in common that they don't have in common with any other Jazz musician. What is it? |
| |
weren't they all house bands at the Savoy Ballroom? |
| |
That's a good guess and is, in fact, true, but they have that in common with other jazz musicians. next. |
| |
well...you have until Friday. |
| |
They all were born in 1909 and have a double letter in their last name. ;) |
| |
Benny Goodman. Sorry Ron. |
| |
That was a really good answer, Ron, but alas, it was not the correct answer. Thanks for straightening him out Julius. Julius, Are we going to see you down here for F2 this Friday? next please. you guys can do it. I'll give you a hint: "It" was only made a common trait in the last 5-10 years. |
| |
F2 was really fun tonight and the DJ battle was awesome. Everyone who didn't go missed out. Both djs were great! Rock on Chance for organizing such a cool event. |
| |
Yes, it was fun. Good crowd despite Street Scene and the Santa Barbara Exchange. Thanks to everyone who came out and danced! |
| |
who won? |
| |
I believe Jeremy took home the prize. |
| |
Which means, Ron, that if you beat Tony, it will be you and me in the first semi-final round. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! |
| |
That's correct. The winner of the first Black Ball DJ Battle was: Jeremy Barwick!!! Congratulations to him. He narrowly defeated Nick Williams by four votes! That's freaking close. It was a fun night...At the height of the dance there was around 80 people there. Thank you all for coming out. Be there Sept 19 when DJ Ron Bloom battles DJ Tony Quach. This is not to be missed. It's the original Firehouse DJ verses the original LindyGroove DJ!! |
| |
Congratulations, Jeremy! It was a darned close contest! Hey, powers that be, could I suggest a different way of voting? How about giving a chip to everyone who wants to vote, having a box for each dj, and letting people put their chip in either box? I think that would be better than signing our name on a list. Just a suggestion... |
| |
i wouldn't sign my name on a list |
| |
Laurel, I was planning on giving everyone a ticket at the door and doing the box thing, but it didn't happen on time. The signing of the paper was a last minute substitute. Next time there will be tickets and boxes. Ian, Afraid of putting your name to your opinion? ;) Imagine if the founding fathers said that about the Declaration of Independence...don't ask me where that came from... I didn't show the DJs the paper...Except for where Michelle Barwick voted for Nick three times. ;) |
| |
There's a difference between taking a stand for liberty and offending a friend. |
| |
it was a joke...i'm sorry you didn't get to vote. next time we'll have the tickets. |
| |
Probably one major reason that he didn't vote was that he wasn't there. |
