I was not aware of that fact.

Yup, Ron is right, sometime next spring, the San Diego Center of the Moving Arts will no longer be at 3255 5th Ave. Corporate money has prevailed once again, and perhaps that is why there are no longer any old 40's dance halls left in SD anymore (e.g., Vasa Hall). So come to the Firehouse (Hillcrest) while it's still around, before it just becomes another distant memory in SD Lindy lore.

I'll be there tomorrow and I'm bringing Natasha from San Francisco. Bring my shirt, Meeshi!!!!

I'll be at the Firehouse tomorrow and the Aubergine on Sunday. It'll be my last Sunday in town before I move back to SB so I hope everyone goes so I can get in some awesome dances.

Keep it Sundays... we can always change it when Firehouse on Thurs shuts down... "lets cross that bridge when we come to it"

Also a bit of advice I picked up from small business': It typically takes 3 yrs for a small business to take hold - thus one must go into the first years expecting to lose more than winning.

I'm not suggesting for Aubergine to wait 3 yrs before changing...but then again, the idea is to hang on. Consistancy always helps.

Parking seems to be easier to find on Sundays too.
The Cafe Sevilla crowd tends to be big during the week.

"It typically takes 3 yrs for a small business to take hold - thus one must go into the first years expecting to lose more than winning"

if this applied to swing, Meeshi would be rich by now.

People don't normally get rich because of a dance career...no matter how many years they are in business. I think she's talking about clientele, and that does take time to build.

Yay for Chance! and even more specificaly... clientele per venue.

Back in the day..when Clayton's was open - I went almost every Friday night...

Actually, Ian, the Aubergine is the first venue that I've consistently lost money on, due to the added expenses of a bartender, bouncer, and especially a LIVE band. For me, it's worthwhile to run the venue for nothing just to have a nice place to dress up, have a drink and dance to some great LIVE swing/blues music. But now that I'm in school again, it has become increasingly difficult for me to pull money out of my pocket week after week just to keep this place alive.

(dramatic pause)

If I were a rich man, I would keep Aubergine open forever, but alas, I am not...

(soliloquy over, Meeshi sighs with despair then smiles wryly and winks)

Well if were talking clientele per venue, we know from 6 years experience (claytons is hardly back in the day) that even the most succesful venues have have lasted two years at most. A case could almost be made to close and open new venues on a monthly basis (ok exageration)

It would be a shame to lose Aubergine. If only I lived down there.

Meeshi's swan song:

If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man

Meeshi, Just a thought, but why is Stompin' at the Aubergine not listed under things to do on the Aubergine website? I'd think that might help things a little...

Also, every other night has drink specials advertised...You should talk to the Aubergine and get some drink specials.

There are drink specials. Just ask the bartender.

Macktheknife, I liked Fiddler a lot by the way.

Why aren't they advertised like the other nights?

The Wheat beer is very good! But what's with the plastic cups?

Yah I think the Fiddler song should be Meeshi's theme song now. He had one for me. :^)

Everyone should come out tonight for my last night of dancing in San Diego. I want to see all of my favorite leads and follows there!
