Q: So what the heck is the "Trankey Doo"?
A: The Trankey Doo is a jazz line dance composed from a female dancers' steps from the 1940's named Trankey Doo! It is performed to any swing song with classic 32-bar AABA structure. Along with the Shim Sham and the Big Apple, the Trankey Doo was a staple of the Savoy Ballroom in the 1940s. Choreographed by Pepsi Bethel, Al Minns and Leon James, it was originally done to Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins. Frankie Manning has his own version of the dance.
Come learn the Trankey Doo from one of the top jazz movement instructors in the country, Ms. Giselle Anguizola. Since there are so many jazz moves in the routine, she will be teaching the routine in two parts: Part One on Fri. May 19th and Part Two on Fri. Jun. 2nd. Both parts can be learned independently, but we recommend attending both nights.
Q: New to Swing Dancing?!
A: Don't worry, we will still have a Beg. Jitterbug Swing Class before the dance to help get you started. There are two dance rooms in the Firehouse, so the Beg. Swing Class and the Trankey Doo workshop can take place concurrently from 8-9p. $12 gets you admission to both the workshop and the dance (it's only $10 for students under 21).
Come support our new 1st & 3rd Friday night dances at the Firehouse! ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!!
