SWING’’RAMA

The paper

ABOUT

Swing’O’Rama is an independent publication about swing dance and the music it was built on — written for anyone who has watched a floor and wondered how it works.

The organising idea is tempo. Every article here is pinned at a beats-per-minute figure, every section sorts along the same ruler, and the homepage runs from 300 BPM down to 100. Your position in the subject is always a number on that axis, never a menu position.

Two things we are not. We are not a school, studio, event or teaching body, and we are not affiliated with any — nothing here lists classes, venues, times or prices. And we are not a nostalgia act: these dances were created by Black American dancers, above all in Harlem and at the Savoy Ballroom, and that history is treated as load-bearing fact throughout, credited plainly.
